Is calling someone a "TROLL", a personal attack?

Dude, you need to grow a pair if you think being called a "troll" is a personal attack.

Every forum has its original set of members. Often, the original members set the tone for the forum. In any forum people come and go for various reasons, but a major reason for people leaving a forum is hostility by the core membership. Original members get comfortable with things going a certain way, anytime anyone upsets the routine, the newbie is labeled a troll. It reminds me of the constant references to the search function as an answer to a question. Maybe the person missed the search function button, or they are new to the internet, it is no reason to attack them. The internet brings out the worst in people, they act out in ways they would never in person.

To me a troll is a person that has an agenda different than the original stated intent of the message board. Say we were discussing 1989 TRs, the troll would either be on the attack or talking about other issues like the 2008 Presidential race. The problem becomes that the forum regulars take anyone questioning their knowledge or information as a personal attack so they bite back with the "troll" comments. Being labeled a troll is never a compliment, so yes it is a personal attack.

While the troll tag is thrown around often, I suspect that less than 1% of the time is it an accurate description. Some people require more evidence than Jim said it and he has 11,345 posts so it must be true. People follow blindly those they know and trust, and that is dangerous. You should always look for confirmation of information from an independent source to ensure the integrity of the conversation IMO, but doing so will lead you being labeled a troll here and elsewhere.

 

Trolling = baiting, annoying, arguing for the sake of arguing (ref. 0846 thread), posting F1 v. 6spd or wooden F50 or what is your occupation,etc.

Troll = practitioner of above, also ill behaved child, i.e. my 2yo is trolly today.

If it is seen as a personal attack, then it probably fits

I concur. Also coming in just to make your opposing view known can be seen as trolling. Example: That one guy who within 20 posts of joining was kind enough to let everyone know that a Ferrari got hosed by an EVO supposedly. Now had this been Darth of NNO telling this story of how they were at the track and saw this F-car take a beating by an EVO, it would have been an entire thread all together. We could have had some details and everyone would have known it wasn't meant to incite a board riot.

Edit: Ok maybe if Darth had been telling the story, a riot would have still resulted, but perhaps for different reasons.

 

I dunno that the bashing (or labelling of people as 'trolls') is strictly the province of the 'original' or early members.

I don't know - I have been here for a while and I have sort have noticed a deterioration of this forum. It used to be a place where "Off-Ferrari Topic Discussion" could take place. Now it seems like a lot of the threads just degenerate into certain people's playgrounds for having a laugh for whatever reason.

Maybe I am being a bit harsh? It also seems like the overall feel of the forum has changed a lot with new people coming to the forums and old people posting less and less. The intelligent replies seem to be down, the posting with proper punctuation/sentences seems to be going down, etc.

I am not really complaining so much as just noting how things have changed with the coming of the "troll"

 

Why is this area called off topic ??? Off topic means other than ferrari posts correct ??? [ hows my punctuation thus far ??] I'm not breaking your balls, just stating a opinion.. As far as another response , here ----
