I double-clutch my shifts because I enjoy it. I enjoy driving a Ferrari. Is it NECESSARY? I don't care.

Far worse for the clutch throw out bearing is sitting at the lights with the clutch pedal on the floor (ie. clutch disengaged). Very bad practise!

A doucle de-clutch just doubles the number of times the clutch is used, if the throw out bearing (or release bearing as some call it) cannot handle that then er, it was not a very good design in the first place IMO.

    Those that double clutch downshifts:

1.Those that have been inside a tranny and know what syncro teeth (and beat-up syncro teeth) look like.

    2. Those that are accomplished drivers.

P.S. One can tell that an accurate downshift is much easier on the whole engine/drive-train from the sound & feel of it. Then there is the satisfaction of accomplishing a downshift that is demanding.
