    Anyone have any comments good, bad, or otherwise about Wil de Groot's shop, Exoticars, in Frenchtown, NJ? I'm looking for a mechanic who can fix Ferraris and Lamborghinis correctly the first time, on time, and at a fair price.
    Thanks!

    No experience with them, however Steve Arena @ Arena motors has been servicing quite a few f-chatters cars with very positive results- see the post under ny tri-state/ f-chat read this ny/nj for some recent testimonials and pics. He is a Ferrari trained and Lambo trained tech that works by himself and is able to give that personal touch you seem to be looking for. He fixed my TR and did a great job.

    What type of car (or what model Ferrari) do you have? I've heard mostly good things but a more detailed opinion kind of depends on what you want them to work on.

    Wil and many of his clients are active members here. I'm sure someone will chime in. While I have no direct experience, several of my friends rave about his shop.

    I do not have information as to Wil's prices, but I do know he is very good. He has done some tremendous fabrication work, some very nice restoration work while not over restoring and looks after a Competition 206 Dino at the track for a gentleman from NewYork. He posts on here now and again as he puts on the Frenchtown Auto show, which I think is being held in September this year.

    Wil and his guys at Exoticar are great!! Very nice friendly guys and they do know their stuff. Also, Exoticars will be hosting a car show on Sunday September 24 at Old Frenchtown Field, Frenchtown, NJ. You should stop by and check it out!! Last year was a great time, but it was too damn hot on that field to have an all day car show. Here's a link to this years show;

    Wil services my 6.0 He is anal and knows the cars; he also knows how to do the work right. He can custom fabricate- he is creative, and he is thorough. He picks up my car in an enclosed trailer in NY, services it, and returns it to me, spotless. He not only finds the source of any complaint, but points out other issues while the car is in his hands- not to look for additional things for you to spend money on, but to make you aware of any potential problems. I have also found that while he is not 'cheap,' he applies a rule of reason in every case- partly, because he doesn't waste time in diagnosing a problem and partly because all of his solutions are not dependent on parts-changing at Lambo-astronomical pricing. (For example, he replaced my door gaskets for about 1/10 the cost of factory ordered replacements).
    I cannot speak highly enough of him. In comparison to my experience at a number of highly regarded dealer shops, Wil is, almost without exception, on another, higher level of service and attentiveness to detail. I trust him implicitly, and apart from my experience with him in owning this Lambo, i did not know the guy and had never met him before. With this car- my first Lambo, after a succession of Ferraris- he has made ownership something that is smooth and easy, rather than the horrorshow I always believed Lamboland involved.

    I've heard that cars are left outside when not being serviced with potential exposure to the elements, and that the shop is so tight that there is a risk for damage?

    Um, you may not know this but just about every new Ferrari & Lambo dealership on this planet leaves your car outside from the day it arrives from the docks to the day you take it home -- you'd be kidding yourself to think anything else...the elements don't hurt...

    But that's besides the point. I've heard very positive things about Wil's shop as well.

    Where are you located? If nearby Wil, take it there. If you're near Northern NJ, check out Arena Motors...

    We store all cars in our large storage building at night except for the very occasional car which we know is normally kept outside by the owner. Wet cars are promptly dried. We take great care over all the cars, caring for them like our own. The closer you get to NYC the more closely cars are kept, in just about any shop. I repeat: we take great care that no cars are damaged at our shop. We live on premesis and have an electronic security system.
