Hello, I'm having an annual done for the first time since I bought my 2010 599 HGTE. I have a reputable shop nearby that I'm thinking of using. Will get a quote from them and compare it to the Ferrari dealer cost (which is also a much less convenient location). Was just wondering if there is any proprietary equipment (scanners etc.) that a F dealer would have that would be important or necessary for an annual service that an independent shop might not have? I understand that if there are significant issues, then a dealer may be the best place if it requires Ferrari specific diagnostic tools etc.
Much appreciate any input you can provide, thank you very much!

This is my car history as per the note I sent after briefly speaking with them:

"As per our discussion, attached is Ferrari’s recommended service schedule. I was thinking that I’d have the 37,500miles/3-year service done but welcome your opinion. Obviously with my 599 there is a disconnect between the miles and the years as is common. But I have driven it several days each week putting about 7K miles on it since I acquired it in the Spring of 2022 with 19,602 miles. That is except in the winter which sadly was only driven when weather allowed, but I do start it up at least weekly all winter.

It has previously been serviced regularly by Ferrari dealers since new, and then in Nov. 2021 with 18,991 miles a CPO inspection was done by Ferrari of Long Island with a subsequent annual with oil & filter, pollen filter, emission service, brake fluid replaced, coolant replaced, steering fluid replaced, fuel and battery service, wipers replaced, 4 wheel alignment, and additionally valve cover gaskets replaced, hood struts replaced, and possibly serpentine belt replaced.

Most recently done, just before I acquired it in March 2022, was a PPI also done by Ferrari of Long Island. In Dec 2022 a leaking power steering pump input line was fixed, and the handbrake tightened/adjusted, both done at 24,324 miles, by Ferrari of Greenwich CT. I replaced the air filters myself in Spring of 2023 this year.

Attached, should you need them, are the Ferrari owners service book schedules for 5yr/37K, the Ferrari Shop Manual service procedure, (which in true Ferrari fashion do not exactly agree), and the Ferrari fluid specs.

Let me know what the cost would be to do this service, obviously anything additional found necessary would be extra.
    Thank you!"

In my shop I have a policy of not servicing models I am not fully equipped to service and repair. For one thing if during servicing I set a warning light, I would have no way to turn it off. Also I cannot interrogate any systems during a minor service which in some cases are important. More importantly I personally feel continuity of service facilities is far too important to have some of it done here and some of it done there with no one responsible for the overall care.

Annual services or minor services are far more important than just an oil change. Its to keep track of the entire car and watch for upcoming issues. No one not fully equipped and up to speed on your particular model is capable of doing that.

The only thing I would add to what has already been said is in general, stay away from the dealers. There are plenty of highly qualified shops that, once you develop a relationship with, will completely look after the car.
    Where are you located?

I'm very skeptical of dealerships as I have had bad experiences before. Many others here seem to feel the same way. But really....in most public forums you only hear about the "bad" experiences and you rarely hear about the "good" experiences. With that being said, I think the most important thing is for you to do your research and then build a strong relationship with a mechanic (or dealer?) that you trust. But if you can...try doing some of the work yourself. An "annual" service is normally not too complicated and might offer you a great opportunity to understand your car a little better.

I’m in NY, north of NYC and close to CT. The shop I’m considering has experience with exotics so I think it’s worth a try. Thanks.

Where ever you go let them review F1 system ..at that mileage need to test the system to make sure no issues are lurking.. also a good flush is not done in its life wouldn't be a bad thing

If the car has its service records, that system should be flushed every other year.

I agree on continuity which is why I’m really vetting places. Want to find one with full capability and then stick with them. And one with the kind of integrity you exhibit. Thank you.

any shop with a history of doing Ferrari work and that has the Leonardo with the software package for the 599 can do the work. I use the Dealership, and a very good independent. The dealer has the latest updates to read the software and reports.

The Leonardo is not the only option. The SD3 was the factory equipment provided to dealers for the 599 and others. Many independent shops have those. It is the piece of equipment I chose.

I have and use a good local foreign car shop. They know Ferrari cars and have the OBC interface. They recommended a Autel 808 that I keep in the trunk to deal with the neusance code alarms, mostly evap system leaks (gas cap seal). I recommend one and it can be used on all cars. Even programs new keys to the cars ECU.
