Saying that they won't survive beyond 2025 is not exactly going out on a limb. Marchione has been saying for awhile now that industry consolidation will occur + he is not the only one saying this. Once oil goes back up all 3 US manufacturers will be hurting as big profits are generated by trucks and suv's.

For us in the States we have not had Alfa since 95, Fiat since 85...everything that we are seeing today for me is just heaven. I can finally go to my local Alfa Romeo/Fiat dealer and buy brandy new again + there should be enough product over the next few yrs to keep me quite content. Dealer experience is definitely lacking but where else can u walk out onto the service bay floor to talk to your mechanic one on one, I know not important to most and definitely not a selling point when competing against BMW,Benz and Audi.

Mercedes took over Chrysler for their pension cash and totally F'd them over, the fed bailed out Chrysler after this and it was perfect timing to get Fiat and Alfa back into the states with somewhat of a dealer network in place. As far as I'm concerned Japanese 4x4's cannot compete with Jeep and if u want to move up to large luxury with Infiniti or Lexus well then I'll just go full size Cadillac.

Throw in an FCA Hellcat and there is plenty of product offered that will keep me very amused for the foreseeable future.

The Koreans haven't only hurt Fiat, they've hurt all European brands, pushing them to make better cars and pushing them upscale.

VAG, one of the worlds powerhouses, can barely shift 60k units per year in the U.S, merely half of what Kia-Hyundai do, let alone the Japanese 4.

Consolidation is a must, Renault-Nissan is an example, PSA, FCA and there will be other mergers.

Now Mitsubishi is part of the Renault-Nissan alliance too.

PSA has swallowed Opel (GM Europe) and are partner with Dofeng in China.

FCA is not attractive for a take over, and has no penetration on the Chinese market.

VW and Mercedes are big and diversified enough to survive alone, but BMW is vulnerable to predators, and some Chinese company could make a bit on the stock market.

On their way to become the Number One Superpower, the Chinese will take over some of Europe's car industry before long. They use a different strategy than the Japanese to capture markets: they don't try to impose their brands, they prefer to acquire existing profitable companies.

Sounds like the typical "Dealer Experience". I wouldn't single out Fiat.

Group market share was up 50 basis points to 7.3%, making FCA fourth overall in the European sales rankings. The Alfa Romeo brand posted a particularly strong month with April sales up 52.2%, driven by the Giulia and Stelvio (already segment leader in Italy). The Fiat Panda and Fiat 500 continued to dominate the A segment with a combined 29.4% share. The Fiat 500L led its segment – with a 28.5% share – and the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade also ranked among the best-selling models in their respective segments. With another strong monthly performance, the Fiat Tipo also continued to climb the rankings in its segment.

The Fiat Tipo posted another strong month, ranking as C-segment leader in Italy and among the best-sellers in Europe. Also performing well were the 500X (among the top 5 in its segment) and the 500L (continuing as leader in its segment with a 28.5% share).

Lancia/Chrysler posted April sales of more than 5,900 vehicles with share unchanged at 0.5%. For the year-to-date, brand sales were up 1.8% to nearly 27,500 units with share at 0.5%.
The ever-popular Ypsilon remained first in its segment in Italy with year-to-date sales up 2.0%.

Alfa Romeo posted an exceptional monthly performance with sales up 52.2% year-over-year to nearly 7,400 vehicles. Market share was 20 basis points higher at 0.6%.
Year-to-date, sales were up 38.7% to nearly 28,900 vehicles, with market share increasing to 0.5% (+10 basis points).
    Sales were up 46.6% in Italy (+35.7% for the year-to-date), 162.7% in Germany (+94.5% year-to-date) and 55.4% in France (+22.4% year-to-date).
Driving this result were the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio. The Giulia is already among the D-segment leaders in Italy, with a 12.4% share, and climbing the rankings in other markets. The Stelvio is segment leader in Italy (11.8% share) with solid growth in markets across Europe.

Jeep posted April sales of more than 8,200 vehicles, and share was stable at 0.7%.
Year-to-date, brand sales totaled 35,400 vehicles (in line with 2016) and share was 0.6%.

You may post flattering sales figures for FIAT in Europe and the USA, but they don't reflect the financial health of the group.

    It's the spreadsheet that matters!

FCA wouldn't be the first car company loosing money whilst still selling in number.

The fact is that FIAT has been declining for years.

I love how people "spin" numbers

If I sold one item last year and sold 2 this year, that's a 100% increase in sales!

(but its still only 2 items)

And if I put a discount on the second one to move it, its not really a complete sale.

    +1

I remember when BMC here was selling the Austin/Morris Mini and losing money on everyone of them because it wanted to compete head on and match Ford sales figures.
    It ended in bankruptcy!

Some people cannot grasp the difference between turnover and profit.

Long may FCA continue. I'm not so sure they're any different to any other large company.
I do think we are about to verge on a few casualties as the format is changing with electric cars and there are companies who are just not investing enough effort in them.

If you had read it, FCA's net profit for Q1 2017 was €641 Million against €478 Million for 2016, an increase of 34.1%.

FCA is doing very well at the moment.

Thank so for the info :) Well, it's not just one company from China wants to buy it, there are four groups at least, mostly was the Greatwall I think, they desperately need Jeep to expending their territory of SUVs, since they only make SUV, so Jeep is exactly what they need now, if they want to be the biggest SUV company! Also the Guangzhou automotive interested in buying FCA as well, they also have a joint venture with Jeep making SUVs, like Cherokee, Renegade and new compass. I personally think they won't sell it to the Chinese automotive groups, but if they can make them an offer They can't refuse, then they probably will!, remember they still have 4 billion debts need to shake it off :)

That doesn't bode well for FIAT.

Soon, it will be just a badge on foreign-designed vehicles manufactured abroad, with no FIAT DNA left in them.

For example, we have the same here in UK with Vauxhall: they are now purely rebadged OPEL. Vauxhall used to design and produce a whole range of cars and commercials, but with "rationalisation" during the GM era, it lost its individuality, and the customers started to leave.

How long the US public will tolerate 4X4 FIAT rebadged at JEEP?
