I am about to pull a trigger ordering a 812 but cannot really decide if front camera is necessary or not. Given the size of the car, I think it can be convenient in city drive. However, the dealer insists that it is not necessary plus it will ruin the look of the front. Would love to hear different opinions, especially people who have opt with front camera and does it really affect the front-end look in person?

    Thanks in advance

Hi I have an 812 on order. I ordered both front and rear camera.

I used to have a 2013 MBZ SLS GT that had an incredibly long hood just like the 812. Seeing over it's hood to where the nose was a challenging event.

This was not challenging if you don't drive the car. But there were situations when I parked my car at home where I mistakenly bonked the nose of the car. I just couldn't tell how close it was to the wall several times.

This also made it difficult and tense in parking the SLS.

So this is why I bought the cameras. Less worry when parking was a small price relative to the change in looks.

Now great opinions would come from F12 owners and people who already have their 812s

I have an 812 and a F12. Both don’t have front camera as the sensors in the front do the job.

I think its a must. I have an F12 and its a real help. It will be on my 812 order as well. The sensors DO NOT pick up everything. Very useful to have.

I have it on my F12 and have never needed it once, the parking sensors do the job when they are turned on.
I have not ordered it on my 812 Just the rear camera.

Rear a must, front not so much. Didn’t have a front one on my F12 and 812 is in production w just a rear and hopefully out before the break in August....make sure u have the rear!

I have the front camera on the F12 and have never used it. The sensors are fine. The rear camera is useful, especially in the 812 with wider curved haunches. Although off topic, I have found the lifter very useful given the long wheel base on both cars, especially here in Europe where there are an increasing number of aggressive speed bumps on narrow roads which cannot be taken at an angle. The TDF which doesn't have the lifter took an expensive scrape on one.

For the cost of the front Camera (in the US as the rear camera is standard) I would get the front lift. You will use it more times and will never regret having it.

I have an F12 (for more than three years and 18.000 Km) without front camera and I have never missed it.
After seeing the first Pictures of the 812 front camera I was convinced that this is definitely an option to avoid (just ugly IMHO) - so I ordered the 812 only with rear camera.

The other day I parked the F12 at a friends yacht club. I had to pull into a spot that had a significant dip between the paved road and the grassy parking spot- and not much depth for the car before a wood fence. Lifter on. Parking sensors on. Camera on. I could see the fence no problem. All the while not a peep from the sensors. As I pulled the car in and felt I was in far enough, I lowered the car. As the car lowered the sensors went crazy. That really surprised me. I was probably 8" from the fence... And this wasn't the first time the sensors have missed an obstruction. I've had many times where there is an obstruction in front or behind that is just out of the sensor range- an example would be the tow hook for a trailer. (Not that I am pulling a trailer with my F12!)

Yes its very possible to live with one of these cars without sensors and cameras. But I urge anyone ordering one to order both. The time it saves you from damage it will have paid for itself.

I've never missed a front camera or had a front camera. The F12 has sensors but I don't really need them. My corvette as nothing. I'm just used to parking long nose cars.

Also that nipple is kinda ugly.

Can't give an opinion on the 812 but for the Lusso the sensors are enough....

Sensors are sufficient most of the time, but they are inadequate for tall curbs and parking stops. Of course, you can always back into it whenever the parking space has those...but that can be a real hassle.

Have an F12 and in fact decided to install the front camera afterwards! The benefit is big simply because "seeing is believing". In case of exiting a narrow road (with limited views), parking, to me a big help. I believe it does not effect the looks of the car that much. For me, no Ferrari without!

I don't know if all 812 cameras look like that or if thats for the CF one. I can tell you its a big help when pulling out of parking spaces in my local parking lot. Yes I really DRIVE my car, but during the nicer weather months she joins me in real life too and my local parking lot is packed and people drive like maniacs, so you really have to be able to see, and having that camera helps. I could do it without, but I am now used to it and I like it. I whole heartedly recommend it to anyone on the fence.

The front camera is also good for letting you know ahead of time how much dirt and bug carcasses are splattered on the front end of the car so you can anticipate how much elbow grease will be needed after returning.

I don't understand why anyone would not get the front camera. Its like having insurance, you don't need/use it daily but whem you need it, it's right there. Furthermore for the amount we spend on these cars it's peanuts (cost-wise) in the big picture.....same goes for front (and rear- GTC4L) lifter ....
