Mark, I know what you mean about the black paint on the lower body. I never cared for the earlier treatment that stopped at the fold-under, and when redoing my earlier-numbered car, had the painter do it in the later style, including the front belly pan. I think it looks a lot cleaner that way. As for the covers, as they come from the supplier, they remind me of a dinosaur's toe nails! A good friend, and fellow F-Chatter, Bob Zambelli, cut mind down with a Dremel tool, and it took seven hours to trim the two covers! He made aluminum brackets as a finishing touch. They came out looking good. It was hard work just watching Bob do the marking and trimming! As he often says: "I can't wait to never do that again!" Fred

Back to the actual thread subject, my `new' Dino is being registered/re-titled as a 1971...as it should be. Thanks for all the responses!

I know for a fact that Italian almost all Italian factories closed during the month of August in the early 1970's and everyone would go on vacation. I was there and witnessed it.

My understanding is that when they reopened in September, they would start building the next model year cars.

Didn't Detroit do something similar? They have always brought out the next model year in about September, no?

Porsche starts taking orders for next model year in late spring and starts building them in July for delivery in Sept. I had ordered mine in late July for a mid-Nov delivery.

Since my Dino was built in March 71, it clearly is a 71 model car, not 72.
