Alonso: Vettel 'not the best driver' | News | Motorsport.com (GMM) Fernando Alonso does not believe reigning quadruple world champion Sebastian Vettel is the best driver in Formula One. Some have been surprised this year as Vettel, despite his domination of the sport for years, has struggled to keep up with his new Red Bull teammate Daniel Ricciardo. But Spaniard Alonso on Wednesday said it has been no surprise to him. "In my opinion," he is quoted by Italy's La Stampa, "Lewis Hamilton is the best driver. "I don't know what problems Vettel is having this year, but I have not changed my mind about him -- he is not the best. "It is others who have to change their opinion," Alonso added.
I agree that Seb is not the best driver, but he is certainly upper-echelon. His stock has clearly gone down with his regular whippings from D. R.
After seeing him spear Button in the side on a straight away at Spa, you had to take a step back and say, "Huh??".
Hahahaha I agree with Fred, he is the only saying that he wants to remain on friendly terms with the ones he intends to eat, I mean beat, the sly fox.
A wise man. Though I think both hamilton and alonso are as good as eachotjer. Alonso maybe slightly more consistent
He's been saying it for years https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CEzqCcF2mps I'm on my phone so hopefully that link works for you
Why not, it's bloody obvious, unless you explain the success of those you don't like, just being down to luck. And I am lucky.
Alonso, Lewis, and Nico are the best out there, all for slightly different reasons. That's how I see things at the moment anyway. I have some serious character issues with Vettel, but I have to say Vettel has been a victim of that silly car of his and the braking system which is just not sitting right with his style, but has been fine with Ricci. I've heard he can't feel the car while it's braking very well, but it is getting better. Vettel is in the same position Schumacher was in the first couple seasons with Mercedes, he just couldn't get past those silly cars and their lack of driveability, but once that third season rolled around he very much understood the car but was then of course a victim of it basically falling apart on him every other race! Make no mistake Vettel is stuck in the same situation though and he will be back considered a cutting edge driver once he is back in capable machinery where he is comfortable. At the end of the day,m Vettel is the driver teams will be fighting over, not Ricci.
Highlighted still up for debate IMO, quick yes, shrewd yes, sly yes, consistent ok, top level not quite, would be nice to see him pull a few Hamilton starts from the pit lane and podium, Fred certainly could do it, Ham can, probably a few others could do it in that Merc also..we shall see, if team orders are not implemented that is.
Ricci needs more seasons to prove his worth. But if vettel and ricci are still team mates next year and year after and ricci still beats him then I think we would all say ricci > vettel. I'm not so sure on nico. After all he did lose to webber. Then again lewis lost to Jensen but I'd say Jensen is a lot better than webber and better than many give Credit. And alonso lost to hamilton hmm. Nico has the pace but lacks that extra something. If reliability were even id say he would be a good 50 pts down on lewis possibly more. Personally I think the likes of vettel and raikkonen have has enough time to get used to the car. A true champion would've adjusted by now. Vettels doing a lot better than kimi though. He's far gone. Worst current Driver with a WDC for sure
To me Ricci is better than Nico and ham...he makes no mistakes, he is very fast and is beating them on an inferior car....and beating vettel who is also better than both of them...
