I don't happen to meet many Ferraris in my normal driving (mostly city traffic), but occasionally I see a 360 coming in the opposite direction. Sadly, I have YET to get any acknowledgement from any one of them!

I usually flash them (headlights, not privates!), but no response. :(

Is this common for "current" model owners to be uninterested in the older "classic" models?

My car (3.2 Mondi) is RED, it definitely LOOKS like a Ferrari (esp from front-quarter view) and should be very obvious in close traffic. I don't get it.

IMO, many modern F-drivers, especially 360 are egocentric, and drive these cars for that reason. It's a statement of "here I am", not a statement to their love of these cars.
They are only interested to see that you aren't a real competitor in terms of looks.

Again, this is for most of them

I agree. For the most part buyers of "new" Ferraris are poseurs and not true auto enthusiast. I even noticed that with 348 drivers when it first came out and I only had a 328. Of course they're exceptions to that general rule though.

Of course, Lotus' are so rare, when we pass each other we pull over and talk for a half hour.

frank's right...they are for the most part a bunch of *******!
i never acknowledge them when i drive my boxer...not even a look! i however am not a *****...lol!

i do love driving my 930 past them with a big flame blowing out the pipe w/ each up shift...as i disappear!!!!!

of note, i think as the 360 becomes a used car and second and third owners begin to buy and use them, they will eventually be owned by car lovers again...not poseurs!!

I've never encountered that problem. The Ferrari circle in Montreal is small, (there are approximately 200 register Ferraris in the province of Quebec) so F-car drivers here are a little more brotherly with each other on the road.

I'm afraid if I paid much attention to "who's looking at my car" while I am driving, before long I wouldn't be driving anything but a bicycle!

calling the buyers of new ferraris poseurs is a generalization not based on any facts....i would guess from my experiences with ferrari owners , meetings and clubs that most the people who owned the newer ferraris were just as knowledgable and passionate about ferraris as the owner of the vintage cars...its funny, when i drove the 360 spider, other f cars and 360s would wave and flash at me...in my porsche , i almost get no response when i wave to other porsches, the exception was this weekend when a carrera gt waved and flashed me!!!!we are all considered eccentric and weird by the general population because of our excessive passion for cars..we should all stick together and be friends!!!!

Ahhhhh Lotus owners, the worlds biggest gluttons for punishment!

I once owned a Europa TC. Great car, quick and lots of fun to drive. Once when driving it in the rain, I went to turn right at a 90 degree intersection on a small side road. I was moving perhaps 5mph, just normal sedate driving on a wet road. The car turned in, then went to terminal understeer. Nothing I could do got the front to bite! So.... I plowed straight into an early 1970s GM station wagon that was sitting in the other lane stopped at the stop sign.

The Lotus front end was folded up 1/2 way to the windshield! It looked totalled! I was shocked at the apparent damage caused by such a slow impact. The station wagon? There was a tiny scratch on the chrome trim of the front bumper. The owner said the scratch may have been there before the accident. Basically.... no damage at all. He laughed and drove away.

So I am standing there scratching my head and figuring the car is probably totalled. But its not leaking fluid! Hmmmmmm. I pull the hood open and despite much fiberglass being bent and partially torn the radiator is intact and the hoses and such are only pinched a bit.

So, being pretty angry at myself still, I grab hold of the front end with the hood open and give it a might YANK! POP. The entire front end sort of pops out back to something resembling its original shape. Its shaky and as I drove home it was flapping around a bit, but it drove.

Lots of fiberglass repairs and some paint later, it was ready for the next mishap!

Pretty shocking how flimsy Colin and the boys liked to build them. I would hate to think what would happen if you had a head on going 40mph or so!

Thats my biggest rub with Lotus and why I am not a fan of Colin Chapman. His insane F1 design philosophy and absurd compulsion to reduce weight at any cost just cost too many lives. IF he had built his cars a bit more sturdy, perhaps we would be watching such greats as Jochen Rindt and Jim Clark driving in vintage events like Goodwood today rather than reading of their tragic deaths in vintage car magazines.

Statistically speaking, the chances of two Lotusess (Loti) on the same road, breaking down at the same time and coasting to a stop at the same place is pretty good. The long shot is that either driver has any tools with them. :D

    Just kidding, I like Loti.

I had this when I drove a Porsche...I had a lowly '86 944 Turbo. The 911 guys wouldn't even say hello at a Porsche gathering.

With Ferrari, though, I have found all owner, including new, to be very responsive...from 550s and 360s to 250s. At a recent event, only the 355 owner was a little alouf...otherwise, all very nice.

I have found that the local Ferrari owners are very friendly no matter what model they drive. At my first Ferrari club event about a month ago the owner of a 3 day old 612 was very nice and even showed my wife and I the engine, interior etc.... Not at all snobby or uninterested in the older models either. It may just be a product of the local culture.

By the way Gil, Tim Stanford said my car will be ready Monday. Perhaps a weekend ride is in order for next weekend (I know it's mother's day and all). Let me know.

True Ferraristi love them all. There are turds in all walks of life, even Fcar owners. Any Fcar owner that won't acknowledge a guy in a 308 or some other "less expensive" Ferrari is not a true Ferraristi. Ignore him! POSER!

Reminds me of my motorcycle days. I rode a Kawasaki Ninja and the Harley guys treated me like I didn't exist. I thought, sheesh, motorcycle riders are a pretty small minority, we ought to all stick together, but there is snobbery in everything I guess.

If you're a true car guy, then it doesn't matter what you're in. I was acknowledged by a diablo when I was in my 308. I thought that was really cool.

What the heck does that mean!! I have an SL55 as well as my Fcars and I say hi to everyone. Frankly the SL55 runs away from 360s 550s/575s on any road. But I love my Fcars!

Up here in Northern N.E. (Maine/NH/Vermont) all the Ferrari drivers are pretty friendly. I drive a 308 and have pulled over to talk to 355 and 360 owners. Conversations that were meant to be a 5 minute hello usually become 1 hr plus with both drivers making a hasty getaway to make it home for dinner or something.

I even remember one time on an event weekend after a night of some pretty good rain I went out in the morning to find an owner of an F50 cleaning my car! I couldn't believe it, but he said he was finished with his, mine was parked next and he still loved the 300 series cars.

So maybe you guys should drive more often up here in Maine - our state motto is "Maine - the way life should be". We have lots of open roads, very few troopers, and friendly natives.

    Cheers

I've never noticed that. Most of the 360 owners that I've met have had other Ferraris, and have been fortunate enough to earn enough to buy one, and further fortunate enough to get on the list to buy one. From guys living in Bel Aire to those in Santa Monica, as long as they own the Ferrari, they seem to take the time to be socialable.

Oddly enough I'd give more attention to someone driving a 20 year old, or older F car than a new one. Money aside, anyone can drive a new car off the showroom, but driving an old Italian car? Now that takes guts!
