Spiders get flipped much more often...GTB's are more buy and hold cars :D Seriously the production #'s never jive with the 'currently for sale' numbers...

I've always noticed a LOT of spiders for sale -- 355's, 360's, etc. Maybe people tire of the soft top experience quickly?

I always thought Convertibles like the spider held their value more. People like the tops down come summer time. Also most were probably Spiders that were built so you would see more.

There is no mystery IMO. It has nothing to do with people getting tired of the soft top experience, that's a ridicules notion.
In today's climate allot of people just cant afford to have the luxury of having hard cash tied up in a weekend exotic toy. Also maybe owners are being hit hard by the maintenance cost of up keeping these cars. Its not the buying of the F355 spiders, its the maintenance that can be the deal breaker.
With so many spiders on the market, dropping prices will naturally reflect this. So these low priced cars will/may find there way into the hands of virgin ferrari owners, then the cycle of maintenance costs starts over again.
I would say to the new owner that if you cant afford the up keep don't buy one (providing they read the forums, but the majority of owner don't). But on the other hand things change, and even long term owners are feeling the pinch.
There my thoughts, agree or not.

Good points. I couldn't wait to get mine in time for the summer. I found in my search for one, that as summer approached there were fewer available. Maybe in those areas with the top down experience coming to an end (winter), owners decide it's time to give it up.

they generally do, but it seems with some of the V8s that convertibles are worth less than the coupes. probably because many more verts were made than coupes.

brother are you talking about 355s

unless u r talking about the tranversale spider (ts)

The above F355 production figures are right.
Not really relevant that there were only 1000 348 spiders built. One usually finds that in a garden of flowers (355s) there are usually a few weeds (348s) ;)

    That is worldwide production correct?

I wonder what percentages were distributed to the US. There are always many more Spiders for sale here.

Even though there are always fewer Spiders produced, there are always more Spiders for sale in any segment because coupe people tend to be purists who hold onto their cars longer whereas Spider people tend to move from car to car more quickly.

I think there's one of 'everything" (except maybe an Enzo or 599GTO) in FerrariAds right now....

    There's a 16M (beautiful yellow/black example) and even a white/black 458 Italia in there......

    Buyer's Market, baby!!!

    Very well put. Agree 100%.

Edit: To add insult to injury, spiders have the additional soft top problem/maintenance that coupe and GTS don't.

    Really? "Ridicules", huh? :)

Whatever the reason, I looked for a long time before buying, way before the economic meltdown, and I always saw LOTS of spiders for sale. That led me to the perhaps mistaken assumption that many people thought they wanted a convertible, but found they didn't. Droptops seem to be just a bit more toy-ish to me, I suppose.

    Maybe 348SSTB is spot-on :)
