It happens to me sometimes when I drive the Vette with the top on. The answer, take your top off, leave it off. OOOps. You can't can you. Nevermind . Seriously, get the CO meter. We need you alive and sane, well alive anyway. Merry Christmas. Bee Jay
I was in a pretty serious collision back in July in my Carrera Sport. Some idiot made a completely blind, illegal left hand turn and I t-boned him hard at about 55 mph. Anyway, I came out okay except for some pretty serious whiplash for a couple months afterward. Which brings me to my point... It could also be your neck. You don't realize how much you use it when you drive until you've got a problem! When you drive, you're always turning your neck left and right, and your neck is undergoing G forces to keep your head up and straight during acceleration, deceleration, turns, etc. For the first 3 months after my accident, while my neck was tender, I ALWAYS got headaches during and after driving. After discussing with my docs, realized it was a tension headache from my neck! Also spoke with some friends who had experienced the same after some neck injuries... they had headaches too. Have you ever injured your neck? Or could you perhaps have some degenerative disks in your neck?
If it only happens when you drive the Ferrari, it is probably an issue with the car. If it happens whatever you drive, it's probably an issue with your health.
I don't have any neck injuries. Although 5-6 years ago I got rear ended by a drunk doing 40. But no issues. Only happens in the Ferrari. I drive 100 miles a day, no issues with any car I drive
Chris, maybe the car is too loud for you. I have the Spider exhaust (single can) in my TS. It's seems loud enough as is. I have done a 600 mile trip in the car without a headache. Note, I have sensitive ears - I can't tolerate discotheques, or any other place with loud noises. That's why I am in two minds about upgrading my exhaust - it will be fun for short trips but it would be a PITA on a long trip. Maybe you can swap cars with another 348 owner with a stock exhaust and see if it is any better for you on a 50 mile ride.
I had stock exhaust for a couple years, I don't remember every getting a headache then come to think of it Have any in mind?
I drove a 328 with a Tubi for a few hours and the resonance from the exhaust was so intense it caused a bad headache.
Drinking the coke may have helped because it has the same active ingredient as Excederin -Caffeine. My first thought would be carbon monoxide. I had an audi that did that to me years (decades) ago.
Chris maybe you become sexually energized when driving the Ferrari & the blood is going to the wrong head. Try tearing off a piece before you go out for a drive. Seriously though have you seen a doctor about this?
Summertime. The Sun heats up my 348's dash so hot that a film begins to form on the windshield from the chemicals used on the covering. I have to wipe it off with Windex. If it isn't CO that is getting you, it might be those evaporating chemicals.
I use the Etymotic earplugs. It filters out the low rumbling sounds, but still lets you hear your passenger (good or bad thing). After using these I get much less issues with headaches after drives and also ear ringing. http://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-ETYPlug-Protection-Earplugs/dp/B0044DEETC/ref=pd_cp_hpc_0
Still going with the dehydration. Someone mentioned Coke, which is really 99.99% water as an answer. Plain water helps me a lot on the long drives.
Hmmm never saw this thread before and I also get headaches while driving. i also find that the less frequently I drive the worse it is. If Im driving every day its not so bad, but when I only drive a couple tiems per week its really bad. I think its an inner ear problem because of age as I never got it when i was younger.
Sounds silly, but have you been drinking water? Is your urine clear or yellow? You don't need to tell me of course but something to think about. If I'm not hydrated and do something physical, I get headaches. I'm sure if I was driving an older Ferrari, it'd be the same. Have you been getting enough sleep? Have you mentioned this to your doctor? Have you ensured nothing is wrong with your car? CO or other fumes? maybe the exhaust? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just trying to help Keep us posted. Hopefully this situation improves
Carbon monoxide poisoning was the first thing I thought about as well when I came across this thread today but I see other people had anticipated me on this quite a while ago. CO poisoning frequently also causes nausea and dizzyness so I would be on the lookout for those symtoms as well. Definately check the CO level.
I think it is the drone of the exhaust. Put the roof on and kept the windows up and it's much more quiet and didn't bother me. Got home without a headache.
