Seems like traffic (or at least new-posting) has dried up significantly in the past few weeks. Rob, do you have any traffics stats you can share? I don't think I've seen those cool stats/graphs since the server crash in December.

    I suppose we're all in a winter-induced coma, eh?

It's like the broken window theory... when nobody posts, nobody is likely to reply. A self-fufilling prophecy that has only two outcomes:

    1. Rob closes up shop and Fchat dies
    2. We start posting!!

Since I like option #2 better, watch out.... I smell a product giveaway coming!

I think the recent BJ auction has made everyone realize that American Iron is where it's at. It had to happen sometime. Now Lee, Dale, ALan, Art,Bill, and I are no longer the only ones over the hill and it's shocked many into silence.

It has been in decline for some time. You could probably point to the implementation of the tiered subscription as the start of the decline.

    1. F-chat now contains enough information in the archives that you could answer SEARCH THE ARCHIVES for just about any technical or Ferrari history question. Rather than posting, most people just look up previous threads. If a new member posts a common question, the Archive Nazis intervene and essentially kill the thread.

    2. Speaking in general, if a new poster asks a question which some may find obvious or silly, you always have a someone who will inevitably belittle the new poster. Does anyone remember the kid you wanted to be a mortgage broker last week? These people leave and do not come back.

    3. The election is over, and all of the fighting concerning this is now over. The umm, lively discussions that took place between the left and right are less intense.

    4. The subscription system is not a bad thing per se, this is Mr. Lay's creation and he has a right to make money off of it. What it does do, however, is give a few people a sense of empowerment to trash other users. Starting threads about why someone isn't subscribed would be a good example.

    It's wintertime.

On the old FerrariList, this was the time for gun threads.

80% of the people are snowed in or their cars are in the shop for repairs.

    F1 hasn't started yet.

    The Presidential election is over.

Basically, there's just not much left to talk about.....

It'll pick up when the F430 and SA come out here and with any F60 rumors likely to come soon. :)

    It's not just FerrariChat.

Pistonheads (United Kingdom based car forum) appears a lot slower... and we don't get snowed in during the winter.

I dunno... maybe forums are a fad thats slowly going to tail off? Or in my case, i've seen what cars are out there and its time to start working more to buy more Ferraris :D

There's actually quite a bit of traffic, but a lot of it is in regional groups or other narrower-focus forums.

I understand the need to split the traffic, but I wonder sometimes if that doesn't make Ferrari Discussion (not model specific) a bit of a ghost town

I've been thinking it's that many people are active in their own regions now more than around the board - friendships form and people get used to one another.

That, and I keep talking to lurkers -- there are thousands of lurkers who read our words but don't feel comfortable throwing their hat in yet.

Maybe another Lurker Amnesty thread is necessary?

Well if it is quiet that should tell you we have grown men here. unlike www.************* were people need to bully one other to make them selfs feel better. This site we talk about the cars we love rather the people we hate.

Maybe Tillman and ryalex are right, F-chatters spend more time in specific forums of interest, notably regional communities.

I check in daily and look at Ferrari Discussion, Technical, Classic, United Kingdom, occasionaly Lamborghini, and Politics and Religion.

Through the UK thread I have met a number of F-chatters and attended a couple of events organised through the UK section.

I have joined the Politics and Religion discussion once or twice, but inevitably this is primarily an American forum and yes, it did buzz during election time. I doubt that our forthcoming general election, probably in May, will generate the same excitement either in P & R, or in the UK section. I am amazed at the quick flare-up in the P & R between left and right, and equally amazed at how quickly participants settle down to calmer discussion.

As of this moment, I note that the European section has a thread beginning 'Where is everybody'. Perhaps winter's to blame after all.

too cold to work in the garage; Ferrari gifts at xmas have all been discussed; cavallino is over; the big January auctions are over; every conceivable mod to a 360 has been thoroughly discussed . . . .

that only leaves one place to go; the bikini thread . . .

Ferrari is in a slump... so f-chat is slow.

360 has been around for too long and the new 430 is just a 308/328 change.
Plus its already sold-out. (and being delayed in USA because of exchange rates)

The Enzo was sold-out before it hit the market and only a one-year production.

The 612 is not a widely loved new car. Didn't get much buzz or chat since most "sports car" people think its a Bentley.

    550/575 replacement has been delayed?
575 America was good for a month of new chat...

Nothing new since 1999 ??? Chat starts to drop off.

Plus Maserati has kept Ferrari distracted for the last 5 years and is part of the problem... as ferrari trended away from exotic sports cars.

(Lambo sites slow also..... Waiting for Gallardo to go topless and bump up to 600 hp so the Lambo guys have something to talk about.)

Ferrari needs new cars (that aren't already sold-out)to keep the traffic high :)

It's quiet, but in my opinion, not too quiet.

Remember that it's the offseason. Most of us are "celebrating" winter and thus driving less. Fewer car shows, fewer events, no racing yet.

I think things will pick up in March when we "thaw out" and racing begins in earnest.

    We are busy doing maintenance!!!!!

Fuse boxes, wheels, paint, exhausts and muffler screens......busy, busy, busy.
(At the fab shop: "What do you mean, you LOST it!???!!!")

Winter is a good time for this.

Thanks for that, Jim G.! Ouch! LOL!

I have an old Pontiac over here, poised for escalation! I use it to get parts.........You're right though, it's the last car to draw a "man on the street" cash offer. He wanted that striped thing in his barn with the other early Trans Ams and the Hurst Olds Cutlass Pace Cars...

Holiday travel, winter vacations, I think a lot of this accounts for it.........

How about organising a F-Chat bash something like the FFQ at a place where the horses can roam freely.
