I am thinking of going with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 with my new 16" wheels. As it turns out, the front tires are only available with a "W" speed rating while the rears are available in either "Z" or "Y". As long as I am not going to exceed the lowest rated speed and I stay with the same tire design is it OK to mix the ratings?

Its not just the rating that changes its the construction of the tyre.

In my experiance its never good to have mixed tyres on a car that handles...

Go for a tyre where the same spec can be fitted front and rear,

Just my opinion of course !

If this was a Ford Taurus, maybe. Sportscar/performance car - never.

Anyone see the review of an old MG (or Morgan?) in either R/T or C/D a few months back? The car had 4 DIFFERENT tires!!! The article was hilarious.

My two cents is have the same tires at least at the same ends.

You are correct in that you can mix them so long as you stay below the minmum speed rating. Too bad your fronts don't come in Z rating.

I have that combination on my 328 you can't exceed the w rating in a stock 328 so it is ok. The tires are Z rated on sidewall and subrated W and Y.... they are designed with same tread and will work fine together

they will work fine. The car will never do above 168mph w rating and the tread pattern will be the same so braking and handling should be fine.
