I'm not kissing anyones ass on this forum. I originally asked a legitimate question. I only insulted people after I was attacked first by a bunch of jerks, who rather than respond with helpfull info, felt the need to respond like middle school kids. If you don't have anything good to say, shut up and go back to watching Spongebob. I even thanked the people who had enough class & nutsacks to respond in a decent manor.

    ROTFLMAO!

Actually you CAN post a pic without subscribing.... up to 5MB, IIRC.
I wasted all mine on JRV's bikini clad assistants.....

You'll need a drivetrain like the Olds Toronado or the Caddillac Eldorado.
That 501 C.I. displacement of the Cad is my rec...those babies can burn 'em down!!! Closing the rear hatch on it may take some assistance.

Man, I missed a lot of those door prizes on my way in here.....can I still go back and claim them?????

We used to draw cars like that on the book covers in High School.......

How about stuffing a V8/auto in backwards? Driveshaft into the front trunk where you'd mount a FWD system. (You'd have to make a custom reversed shift placard so the valet parkers would know what to do) and you couldn't sell the rad.

    Hmmmmmmmm..........

    *thinking*

We may be on the way to a VERY valuable '79 308GTS here......

Some judicious use of a chop saw may be required to create the driveshaft tunnel. I haven't kept up with the latest FWD systems, not being in the market. Maybe he meant the LATEST (Ford) Jaguar units......

His original query brought to mind Peter Egan's observation that when you pull an XKE drivetrain out, it appears larger than the car it was extracted from!

At the end of the day, the best upgrade for any Ferrari drivetrain is to find someone who can properly tune it! (insert JRV bikini shot here......)

If you are seriously interested in this the Northstar would be the way to go. You can get custom harnesses made for your situation. There is a company that installs Northstar engines in Deloreans. Since it is the Northstar system and not just an engine they should be able to guide you in the correct direction harness/wiring wise. (you won't have active suspension, etc.) Also if you wanted a slightly smaller version you could use the engine out of a late 90s Olds. Aurora. It is a 4.0L Northstar approx. 255hp or so. I hope that this helps you in some way.

If he'd clean and polish it nicely, he could probably trade even for a 400i automatic...

THAT's the answer, and he'd get a larger interior in the deal........

    Hello!

    I'm agree with you...
The 308 engine is not the better engine in the world and his torque value is not very high.
A XKR supercharged engine (363 hp) with the automatic gearbox from Mercedes Benz could be a good solution.
In this case, you can also take Brembo 335mm brake discs and 20 inchs BBS wheels.
    It will be marvellous!
Another possility is to take the motor from a Mc Laren Mercedes SLR, it could be cheaper.

Or you can give you car to Gorden Murray, with 200'000 $, he will make a Mc Laren F308 with a F1 V10 BMW engin... Great idea, no?

A large part of the beauty of a ferrari is in how it goes, as well as how it looks. Even the fErraris that dont look so good are beautiful because of how they go. A beautiful ferrari in looks that is also automatic is a 456. By the time you are finished with your project youll be up to the 50k+ cost of a used 456 gta.

People are offended by what you propose because the "heart" of a ferrari is the engine, as the used to day a great engine with the rest thrown in for free. Yes it is you car and you can do as you please. But even people who know nothing about art and "collect" because they can afford it do not add their own paint to a picasso.

Yes if your engine is totaly shot and it were the only economic solution. But you are comming across as a car philistine and someone who just wants a ferrari for a pose. Dont destroy something for ego. Buy an auto 456, if an auto is what you need.

By the way I appreciate that you find a kit car not the same thing as a real 308, the bodies are different, the real thing has a true harmony of line. What I cannot understand is that if you can appreciate the artistic berauty of the body surely you can have appreciation of the mechanical package for the same reason, they are both part of the same italian creation.

Sorry for my post, I have forgotten that you search an economic engine.

I can help you. I know a good italian engine manufacturer: Lombardini

These engines are very reliable and you will easily find a automatic gearbox for it. They also can be used with CNG (compressed natural gaz).

    Try the link:

Get an NSX 3.0 engine and auto, it should be an easy swap, and stop attacking other members, regardless of who started it first.

I'm going to get around to a serious polite answer for Mr Black beauty. I'm just doing the numbers on making a 400i engine with Auto burn less fuel than a 308...

    I'll be right with you.....

If the question is asked honestly and in seriousness, yes I am serious.
If you refer to my answer you will see that I was completely serious in all of them.

Some people aren't necessarily stupid, just uneducated.
