Is it possible for Ferrari and Renault to have a tie for 1st place? What if this happened at the end of the season?

Yes it is possible. I believe number of race wins is 1st tie-breaker...

Yes and then number of 2nd places etc etc. If everything would be the same, then it matters who did the first win of the season.

    Andreas,

Not that I think it would ever come to this....

Do "place" tiebreakers only involve the point paying positions, before it goes to first race win?

    Simon

    edit: to fix grammar....

if there is a tie - the team who's name starts with F wins.

It's just an alphabetical order ;)

Did anybody tell that to Jackie Stewart when he run the FORD team? Or Emmo's brother who had the Fittipaldi team?

If equal in total points then next criteria is most wins. If the wins are the same then the driver with the most second places clinches it and so on down the order. It will be one in million shot for all the wins, seconds and so on to match.

And if this does happen the two contenders will face off in a pistol duel at dawn :)

In the eighties they duelled with two helicopters over the roofs of Monaco...

Apparently Nannini lost such a duell. Uh, bad joke.

I don't think they would include NON points paying positions because if you don't finish in the points your car isn't inspected.

And if after all those we still have a tie, the driver with the gayest brother loses.
