So I bought an extra remote to lock/unlock the car. I have the original one that came with the car. Is there any way to program the new one short of going to the stealership?

    Thanks!

You can get it cloned but it will mean sending off your working remote as well as the new one. I think there is a guy called Eddie on this forum who does it. I'm sure someone will post the username so you can PM him.

I got mine cloned by a guy in the UK who did it while I waited. Maybe there's someone in the US who can offer this service. My guy had never done this before but was just a genuis with electronics. He works out of his RV and looks like Doc from Back To The Future - I kid you not! He took my working remote code and played around with the new fob until he worked out how to copy the data from my chip to the new chip in the fob. The cloning process means that if you use your fob continually and then use the cloned one, you may need to press it several times while it goes round the various code cycles but will then catch up and this remote will work every time. however, the original remote will then need to cycle round to catch up and so on. Not a big deal to get a spare fob for the car. :)

Taz, will this work with the F430? I have one red key that has no remote functioning for some reason. The key looks brand new. I changed out the batteries, but nothing. My other red key works perfectly. Thanks!

Lamont (where you live no?)- No it will not. The 612 and F430 introduced a modern alarm and remote/key system (with lithium watch battery instead of our ancient alkalines), compared to the 80s technology system covered in my little document. Much easier for you to get spare keys/fobs for your car and up to 7 can be programmed into the system. Unluckily, each one is very expensive, but the ease of use and replacement makes up for the cost, in my myopic opinion.

Take your keys down to the dealer nearest you and he can make the other remote work. Especially you want to do this because replacements are expensive.

Thanks Taz...I am in the OC...I am about 15mins from NB Ferrari.. I guess I could cruise over to their service dept. and see what they say. Their service is separate from their sales by a few miles...

That is the way the system works for 360s and earlier cars. Not much anybody can do to change it.

Unless, of course, you have an F430, in which case it is easy for the dealer to program your alarm to accept a new key/fob.
