    For anti gun nuts though,

wanting a gun = disturbed people.

    That's their mindset.

True as stated. However, there has been a gun-related massacre in the UK since Dunblane ...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumbria_shootings

As the Dunblane school massacre was an incident apparently without precedent in the UK (no school massacres, before or since) ...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_the_United_Kingdom

it would be hard to draw a cause and effect relationship at this time.

I'm not defending gun ownership or gun control here, I'm just looking for clear reasoning and that quoted statement isn't.

Nope, I'm not a target because I'm not a "baddy". That was my point, over here it is baddies shooting other baddies ... who cares!

Anyway Obama has moved on tackling the gun problem in America and I for one will be very interested to see what the out come is: http://www.smh.com.au/world/wakeup-call-for-all-of-us-obama-calls-for-rapid-action-on-gun-laws-20121220-2bnu2.html

ps: I now believe the love for guns in America comes down to generations of men thinking guns make them more manly ... yeah right ... shakes head. Plus they are delusional in thinking by carrying a gun they can defend themselves. Some actually might be able to, but for many more it won't make a single bit of difference, whether trying to tackle a government or a lone gunman.

I confirmed that with my very first sentence.

I disagree with the consequential inference of the statement though. If Cumbria could happen in 2010, the fact that it wasn't a school came down only to the killer's choice of targets.

schools, post offices, and other places of employment should be closed, they are a danger to society, they attract violence, they allow mentally deficient social deviants a place to express their anger...

I noticed you left out psychiatric institutions, I guess you didn't want to be homeless :)

I don't think your post really added anything helpful did it? And yes neither did mine ;)

I know , just seeing if you were following your own logic, which is very sound BTW :)
the statement didn't seem to infer anything other than no more schools were hit, you are the one drawing the bow to include ANY shootings, and I agree with you inference if not the outcome

that is covered by " other places" :=)...just in case your GPS is acting up... conversation (posting ) is always helpful... the questionable thing is about what and to whom

on the topic of psychiatric institutions, they ran out of favor over here, post 1960s or so, there were established "villages" of secure housing for those not able to fit in... there are vestiges of these institutions from a time they were popular running over with attendees... the paradigm of treatment has shifted away from institutions, to invisible... our population has grown, the segment of those in need surely has grown, yet there is no visible evidence of no longer providing assistance for that segment... essentially roaming freely...our society has done it to themselves, it's not the instruments that are used in these attrocities

btw... homeless is not the PC correct label any longer... the new term is "Urban Outdoorsmen"

Unless it is in a movie, in context, there is NOTHING attractive about a girl brandishing a gun.
Even then, it's got NOTHING to do with the gun...

And before any of the nutters posts a pic of a honey holding a gun asking "so you don't think she's sexy"?, here's my answer:

Sure she's hot, but she'd be a LOT hotter without the gun.

..............and another thing,in the Huffington Post(yesterday---Klink don't link.it's on News.com),it is reported that SINCE this tragedy,in 1 week,100 gun deaths have occured in the USofA.
    Some are murder-suicide.
One accidental: a 3 Y.O.baby,played with his auntie's gun, that was safely hidden in a draw, and shot himself, the uncle(I think)is an Oklahoma state trooper.
    Another,14YO,was tied and executed!

Some wally on silver has made a crack about the filmed road-rage incident, saying how we're all Macho(good-on-yer-Alex for the repost,BTW).I don't have an answer to him because that article says it all, really.
Talk about the film Dumb and Dumber, their whole country has that affliction regarding the gun thing.

I'm not sure they are all like that, but the answer for many over there seems to be, "just have a bigger gun and that will solve it".

It is their country and their decisions.

Saw an interesting stat. (Quoting Mark Shields, who I would trust. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/indepth_coverage/politics/political_wrap/bio_shields.html ) More Americans have been killed by guns in peace time than ALL the wars combined that the USA has been involved in. That is including the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Now that is a sobering stat. Solution? Well according to the NRA - more guns.

1000 people also died on the roads this past week in the states.

That's sad to hear that the 3yr old died from family being irresponsible. I'm glad they force Australians to use safes and train people to keep weapons unloaded at all times when not in use tho we can't use them for protection so I can see why they leave them loaded.

That wally is a know troll in silver, he is probably the most ignored person on this site LOL.

According to wiki it's 1,326,612 for all wars since 1775. Most deaths came from civil wars.

Keyboards have lower caps too... :)

What you guys in Australia don't seem to understand is that 9,500 annual death due to fire arms when we have 300,000,000 guns in circulation is a very, very low and acceptable number especially when there are near 2,000,000 instances where guns are used by private citizens to thwart or stop a crime.
