A gunman killed three people before police shot him dead in a shooting at a house in the Colorado town of Aurora, scene of a massacre at a cinema last year, police said. NBC television's local affiliate KUSA cited police as saying that one survivor escaped from the house, where an "armed and dangerous" man had earlier barricaded himself inside with hostages. "The barricade situation is resolved. The suspect is dead. There were also three other victims found dead inside," the Aurora Police Department announced on its official Twitter account.

According the CDC, we average something like 275 accidental hospital deaths per day in the US (depending on how we draw the numbers, this is the sixth largest killer in the US.) According to the FBI, there were ~323 murders involving riffles in the US in 2011. According to the FBI, THERE WERE 496 MURDERS COMMITTED WITH HAMMERS AND CLUBS in 2011! And the numbers get worse for gun control advocates in other recent years, Enough with the guns=murder rampage nonsense. And, as I tried to say in the related thread in the Canadian forum, that X% of the population misuses something as fundamental as a tool of defense or one used for recreation doesn't grant government the right to ban it. That's the stuff of collectives and communes, a status the American people have been resisting even though they've been subjected to crusader scale propaganda on this issue by the purportedly educated class and the self-annointed since ~1875. Those of you who wish to have this sort of say in the lives of others, or want others to have such a say in what risks you take, have all sorts of options, raging from Europe and Canada to, for the diehard "leaders" and sheep, most of Asia.
Only someone who sees humanity as some sort of herd could even come up with such a statement ("one neck, one leash" wrote the woman.) Besides, many, many more want to come here than leave or get murdered, leaving us with the largest population growth % of almost any industrialized nation on earth.

I'm unsubscribing from this thread. It is plain to see that guns have become a symbol of manhood for many and thus they cannot see a future without being armed. A very sad situation IMO. God bless the many innocent victims of all crime, but guns are not the answer. Pete
I just realised why guns are deemed necessary in the U.S. There are so many drug f***ed criminals and violent crimes. Sums it all up I spose. I guess if the likelihood of being assaulted here (or just about anywhere) was as high as it is there, I'd want a gun too. Keep up the good work, fellas. LOL
For most gun advocates I know it's a matter of living life as they see fit. It has nothing to do with their manliness -- especially the babes I know that are into firearms. It never ceases to amaze me how easily so many collectivists/statists will generalize, usually by reference to the lowest common denominator; Lord knows that outlook hasn't been able to put up anything like a rational, integrated argument for itself since Plato formalized it a gazillion years ago. (I'm thinking of one person who recently announced that Republicans can't stand Obama because he's black. Never mind, I guess, that the GOP has been fighting against the policies Obama exemplifies from Day One of that party's founding . . . PS I'm not a Republican.)
