99% of tanks in ww2 fired while stationary and all tanks rear ends are week not just tigers , hitler could of had all tigers at the bulge and it wouldnt of made any difference , the allies had air superiority, as soon as the weather cleared during the battle of the bulge , they could take tanks out at will .
Kongman You obviously have little understanding of Military history or practical reality.... I was a tank crew commander during my time in the military. What cost the Germans the Battle of the Bulge was lack of fuel for their armoured advance and inability to resupply their forces, and lack of re-inforcements and any reserves. German Tiger1,Tiger 2 and Panthers were far,far superior to most Allied tanks during the battle. The Allies did not have any answer to them.....An Allied tank crew such as a Sherman's greatest fear......a Tiger. It was Hitlers last desperate gamble,he threw everything he had into that battle and he lost......most German tanks were not destroyed by Allied Airpower but abandoned/destroyed by their own retreating crews having simply run out of fuel/ammunition or broken down. I stand by what I said earlier........Hitler simply didn't have enough of them. The most numerous type of tank used by the Germans during the battle was in fact the Panzer Mark 4 and 5....Not the Tiger!!! Rockets used by the Allies on aircraft such as the British Typhoon could in fact not penetrate the armour on a Tiger tank. Only Americans and the naive believe Airpower wins wars!!! Kim

Years ago I was out in the Arizona desert on a public road which went past an air force live training range. About a kilometer away, about a dozen A10s were spireling up to about 5000ft and then coming straight down with cannon and rockets firing. I had a 600mm telephoto and took maybe a dozen photos. Weeks later in Canada I put in 10 rolls of film for development. I got all my photos back but not one of the A10s! WTF? Did the photo guy really dig military aircraft and take them or did the CIA confiscate them? No idea. Unfortunately I only checked the returned film days and hundreds of km later. Too late to go back and ask. Strange. I always wonder what the photos were like. Bummer it was pre digital.

Normally there are warning signs re taking pictures of military aircraft, like the signs at Hickham AFB in Hawaii which I always obeyed

That's because their so damn slow there an easy target! Fact,most of the Iraqi armour destroyed during GW2 wasn't done by airpower but by tank to tank combat. The last great tank battle of the 20th century was during GW2.........Yank Abrams totally outclassed the Iraqi T72 and T80's......mind you the Iraqi's had dug their tanks in and were using them as pillboxes.......stupid tactics taught to them by the Russians!!! Yep, And Airpower in that one won it for the yanks too..............................NOT! The Yanks dropped more tonnage of bombs on the place,particularily the Ho Chi Minh trail, than was dropped on Germany by them and the Poms in WW2 COMBINED and still didn't win it! JORN spotted the B2s the year they came out, stealth is fine if you are looking from the ground out towards them but not very good if you are bouncing radar off the ionosphere straight down, the bat signal stands out like dog's balls

And therein lies the basic misunderstanding between the US and Aussie posters here... Australia DOESN'T HAVE ghettos / no go zones (which is not to say we don't have poor folks, they just aren't corralled in the same way that happens in the US; in Aussie cities they are more likely to live shoulder to shoulder - think Redfern in Sydney with a 'notorious' Aboriginal public housing estate within shouting distance of trendy restored houses). There is NO PLACE in Australia I wouldn't drive my car. Some places I wouldn't walk alone at night (as a small female) but being afraid what will happen if I have to stop at the lights - fuggetaboutit. I know you probably won't believe me, but we don't have beggars either; or people suffering because they can't afford medical treatment either (whinging about the wait at the hospital notwithstanding...) Secondly, Aussies just don't get the whole fear of the 'government going bad' - we whinge about our politicians, but worry about them 'going bad'? Huh? We just don't have that fear... come to think of it, the BASIC difference is really that we Aussies just aren't AFRAID. We're free from FEAR; the only 'freedom' that really matters...
