That's my understanding too, in NSW "Cat D" is only available for vertebrate pest control, and then only if you demonstrate a special need. Cat "D" for Business use or employment is specifically "not available" Cat H is available to security though. M
If you apply for Cat D it will go through the State Police Commissioners office so you can imagine the type of checks they will do to make sure you qualify. Some vermin control hunters that shoot from helicopters qualify for Cat D.
i cant see the need for semi auto rifle in security work , unless its in a war zone or PNG or some of the island nations. p.s The only need i could see semi auto rifle used is , inside armoured cars doing cash in transit or moving highly valuable cargo

You must be missing something mate..............as I said the only Security guards in Australia that use and carry semi automatic rifles(pump action shotguns)legally are the guards working at the Federal Mint/N.P.A They are not used/issued/licensed for any other Security Industry personnel in Oz........only Prison guards!!! I was all for the automatic weapons ban in the US and started a thread in the Canadian section on it. But since then ive heard more and more from both sides and I now am leaning more toward being against such a ban. We here in Canada and you mates in Australia have always had some sort of control over these types of weapons but the US never really has. With so many weapons now in the hands of so many criminals in a country where the crime rate is the highest in the civilized world and run by a puppet govt. God knows who is pulling the strings and add to that the US govt now has passed a bill that they can kill anyone in the US without even having a reason. Damn I would want to own several rocket launchers if I lived there. It really is strange that the movie industry and the pharmacutical companies are not being attacked at all. We really have to ask ourselves, why is it the guns they are after? The world is a completely different place after the 9-11 false flag attack and Americans have lost more of their rights in the last 12 years than ever in their history. You're probably right, IF we lived in the US we'd ALL want rocket launchers but the lucky thing for us and you is that we don't, we live in countries with proper laws and reasonable gun control, it's out of control there and there is no way back short of draconian laws which will NEVER be passed. Leave them to it I say , they kill their presidents, celebrities, kids at school, family members, turn on their police colleagues .... we've had our share of idiots but the access to guns is not as easy and when there was a mass shooting we tightened up the laws on gun ownership which was fully condoned by most Aussies. Not many criminals from the US hide here as they are all in jail in the US. There are more Americans than ever applying for permanant satus in Canada. There are more Americans in Jail in the USA than we have population. If you get caught with Mari J 3 times in America, you are gone for 5 years. Us as Canadians cant even enter the USA if we have just one charge in our lifetime for smoking Mari J...even if it was 40 years ago. They just wont let you in. I crossed the border last year with my wife and when I got to American side of the bridge...With all the different security vehichles and uniforms they had there, I thought we were entering nazi germany during WW2 and I kid you not. Americans are is some serious trouble and its not from foriegn countries. Thats why they are fighting to keep their weapons. Its very strange that a country that incacerates more people than the rest of the world combined has yet to incarcerate any of the bankers that executed the biggest rippoff ever perpetrated anywhere and it was mostly peoples pensions. Those banks now own more empty houses than there are homeless. Makes you wonder what they are ramping up to and why.
since when did Canada's population drop to 2.2 million? there is no such law. Federal statutes cover distribution, not casual use. If you're a convicted felon,why would we want you here? We have plenty of our own already. Well, that one's BS too. we do have the largest prison population of any one country in the world, but we do not incarcerate more than the balance of the world combined. And the "empty home" statistic includes vacation homes, homes destroyed by storms, homes for sale, etc. I think "abandoned homes" would be a better bet to look at if you're thinking put the homeless in them. Oh, and are there no vacant homes in Canada, and no homeless people? Hmmm . . Canada has about 200,000 homeless, and 1/10 the population of the US, the US has 2.3MM homeless. So, those numbers are pretty equal, as a percentage of population, wouldn't you say? If you're gonna make **** up, make sure it's not anything that's easily fact checked. And, for every American who emigrates to Canada, 1.7 Canadians flee south. Who wants to be where again? (your country's data, not mine.) Emigration from Canada to the United States from 2000 to 2006 I dunno, crap on us all you want, seems more Canadians want out, than Americans want in. there must be some reason they head south, despite the ever present dangers. America does not count all of their homeless because they consider people living in a carboard box or one of the millions of delapidated trailers or a plywood shanty in the side of a hill a home. In Canada we count all of the homeless and they are the ones living on the streets. We dont have those delapidated homes in our cities or people living between 4 5 sheets of plywood. I could jump in a but today and drive around Toronto in an attempt to fill it with homeless and I doubt I could fill it. I dont think I could say the same when driving through a comparably sized city like Chicago. Below is a picture of what exists in or around every city in the USA, you wont find that in Canada.
