There are objective measurements as to what makes an attractive auto design. If there werent then we would see a more broad spread out opinions on which cars are attractive. Same science that explains why what we consider a beautiful female face are very consistent.

Nor would design schools have any value if design was completely subjective.

Point is, whats being debated in this thread are mostly nuances/variati0ns that are subjective. For example, the differences between the 458/488/F8 are all fairly minor and subjective. No one is right or wrong as to which is the 'best looking'

Yes, I’ve brought up this philosophical subject with my friends… asking, “what makes something attractive or beautiful? How can metal, plastic and carbon fiber be shaped in a way that is actually attractive? Why is my car so much prettier than that ‘regular’ car sitting next to it?” Etc etc — the most common response and thoughts are that it’s like a woman. Somehow curves in certain areas are more attractive or sexier and who knows why, but it translates to objects also. It isn’t ‘symmetry’ because even the square Kia Soul parked next to my F8 is symmetrical. So hmmmm…. I’ve read that attractive faces are more symmetrical than uglier ones, but that word doesn’t translate to cars or objects so it’s definitely and interesting and thought provoking topic as to WHY something is prettier than something else. Everything in life is by comparison… no one is pretty unless someone is ugly, no one is smart unless someone is dumber, no one is rich unless someone is more poor, etc but when it comes to visual attraction of someone or some thing, the question of WHY still remains.

I think its very much like the discussion around fuel economy and emissions. The bigs are more constrained by their broader missions and regulations. Ferrari is more focused and by its definition is looking to make something exotic looking. For example, some of the details on our beloved Ferraris would be nixed by a Toyota, GM, Honda, Hyundai, etc, immediately as too easily damaged in parking spaces….

Have you checked what they've been drawing on their Instagram page lately? If Ferrari were to collaborate again they probably will bring out their big futuristic weapons that probably isn't what you are looking for according to the tone of your original post. But one can dream, right? May beauties like the 250 GT Lusso be bestowed upon us once again during our lifetime by Ferrari Execs.

Saw a 296 the other day and first thought was “nice lotus” until it got closer and could see the Ferrari shields.

    Pininfarina is desperately needed.

Just because every Ferrari is already sold and waitlisted a year out doesn’t mean they actually have good looking designs. You can stick a Ferrari badge on a Mazda SUV, call Ferrari and then have them sold out for three years in China North America and Europe… Oh wait they did do that it’s called the Purosangue.

Consumers have never been more gullible. Look at the Lamborghini Urus…literally a VW Atlas rebadged with a different engine and dashboard.

I agree about the Roma and made the same lotus reference in another thread (or maybe this one) a long while back…. (Actually I may have said the 296 is the Lotus and the Roma was just ugly or more like a Lexus or Maserati lol) — But I also think that the two best looking Ferraris EVER made, were designed by Ferrari….the F8 and the Pista, respectively. I also love the 812 design so I don’t think we need PF- Ferrari has done better than them.

The 360 was just disgusting. The 458 is god awful front side and back. The mondial is a disaster. The 348 was terrible. The 308/328 is just goofy looking. The 612 was snoozville. The 550 and 599 are bland/boring. — so pretty much, PF got the 430’s, Scuds and a couple others right.

Style is 100% subjective, so you're 100% correct.

That said, I think LaF, Monza, Daytona SP3, and PS are all beautiful.

I don't think it's fair to reference the F8/Roma/812 since they still use the base Pininfarina bones - but I like em too.

The most I can say about the 296 SF90 is they are far from ugly, just not as striking as some previous designs IMHO.

Yea I mean I had that thought back in 2005 when the Quattroporte came out and had the same v8 as the 360 Modena......

That basically Ferrari and Maserati should "merge" (or just partner) in the sense that Ferrari makes only their sport/super cars...... and Maserati makes the 4-doors and SUV's....... but they can share components where able for manufacturing efficiency.

So a perfect lineup between the two of them would be:
    • Ferrari halo hyper car
    • Ferrari v12 front engine touring
    • Ferrari v8 rear engine sport
    • Ferrari v6 front engine entry level (like the Portofino)
    • Maserati v12 4-door (full size sedan, like 7 series BMW)
    • Maserati v8 4-door (mid size sedan, like 5 series BMW)
    • Maserati SUV (big 7 seater)
    • Maserati SUV (smaller 5 seater, sportier)

They were headed that way at the time.
    I like your ideas.
But, Maserati still deserves a "Gentleman's" coupe.

I believe this was the original idea back when Ferrari took full control of Maserati in 1999. By 2004, Marchionne decided Ferrari *didn't* need a 'lower-end' brand as much as Fiat needed a 'higher-end' brand. I agree.

Put another way, what does Patek have to gain going 'down market?'

That said, I think the Gen 5.5 QP, Gran Turismo are the great bargains out there if you find a well sorted one, and have the knowledge to keep them that way.
