Certainly he had the better car this weekend. I think Massa has already been religated to "world's best #2 driver"

"Certainly" he had the better car? Where do you come up with this stuff? Massa has had troubles passing cars since Day 1 of his F1 career.

I wonder if he really had the best car. Without Massa's drivetrain failure in qualifying I think he may have grabbed the poll. Hard to say but look what he did, coming up all the way to sixth, was it from last? I think they will be given equal chance to become the #1 team driver.

Trouble passing cars? Didn't he come from last to 6th? Yes, Kimi is the better driver. Yes, Kimi is getting favored treatment.

I'm not a Massa fan. I'm just saying that he is the best #2 driver around, and Ferrari is also treating the situation that way. They let Massa have his fun BEFORE the season started. Now that it has.....

Yeah, did he pass the cars on the track? He was on a one-stopper for the pit strategy while most were not. Get over it. Kimi > Massa. As far as the cars he did pass on the track, i.e. Spyker, Aguri, etc, that's a given. He's in the F2007 and they're not.

sorry bout the rant drceterini......... but i just don't get the excuses trundled out, it ****s me to tears. Massa is clearly a #2 like you said, the sooner all the Massa fans accept that, the calmer i will be.

Massa's never had any luck on this circuit; it's a long season so Massa has plenty of time to assert himself, otherwise Jensen Button will be in the seat in '08....

i and many others have said, testing was not really indicative of anything...racing is here, and Kimi shows what he can do in a good car...Massa will be fine, and i hope to see many ferrari 1-2's this season, but today, Kimi outclassed his teammate handily, stop strategies, and fuel loads not an excuse...

Your approach sucks. Now who would better lap times, the guy in the lead, or the guy in traffic all day? Get real. Massa would have outqualified Raikkonen if the transmission did not fail.

Fact: there currently is no number two drivers at Ferrari, only two number ones. Fact: right now, the powers that be at Ferrari like Massa better because of his communication and cooperation. Today Raikkonen vindicated himself by winning, but he still better get his act together within the team. Concern was rising by those familiar with the way Schumacher worked. Completely opposite than Kimi. Being fast is good, if you can also contribute to the development of the car. Raikkonen does not contribute at all. If you do not think that being liked by the mostly Italian personnel is important, you absolutely do not understand Ferrari.

Agreed, it took him how many races to win his first race? and at least Massa has two under his belt.

Not even comparing them. Button is getting older, and IMO is the most overrated driver on the grid. He won one race because of odd circumstances, good for him but that doesn't make him a top level driver.

I'm not a Kimi fan or a Massa fan, I'm a Ferrari fan. Let's just see what happens. Massa's a good driver in a good car and it's hard to judge speed when one guy's in the lead all race and the other's coming from last, lots of traffic. I agree, Kimi did seem faster but if Massa were in pole and Kimi at the rear the results would have been very much the same. Massa proved himself last year I think. I hope they both do well but I'm not convinced Kimi is the best of the two in the Ferrari. Seems like McClaren might be hard to beat in the Constructor's Champ. as well, no one else looks as competitive to me.

Or should I say: "And the transmission wouldn't have failed if Massa hadn't hammered it on that curb????"

Well Hamilton and Alonso were behind Kimi and they were setting fastest sector times. Massa wasn't close despite having a clear track. so Massa must have had an inferior car?

no, it must've been because Massa had a gazillion gallons of fuel onboard, and his tyres were different, and the new engine wasn't up to spec, etc, etc.

seriously, i don't recall anytime in his career where he has been exceptional when 'chasing'...i've seen Kimi, Shu, absolutely rip starting from the back. But then again Massa is neither of those two. whatever, he should be fine this season(he's driving a top car) and ferrari will be fine, but imo he's not quite the 'speed demon on every lap' kind of driver that some hope he is...testing is over folks, now it's about racing...

i think Massa performed well today. of cos, we all know that he's not on the same league as Kimi and FA, but i still think he deserved some credits. remember, the car looked a bit sluggish with the full tank and all.

Melbourne is not good for passing. Barrichello was stuck behind Button, allthough he was clearly much faster. I also remember one Fernando Alonso, being stuck behind Jacques Villeneuve in the 2004 or 2005 edition if this race. Given the circumstances (starting from the back, therefor relying on a one stop-strategy) Felipe performed as well as reasonably could be expected from any driver.

I see no reason why Felipe couldn't be up there, challenging Kimi for the win.

Kimi did a marvelous job though. He looked right at home in that F2007 and took an almost Schumacher-esque win, with a fastest lap almost a second faster than anyone else.
