I assume that there is some alternate venue if the lake floods even more
Yes, the 2nd wettest June has the water very high. Not to worry. Water is being let out of the lake and the remainder of July & August and 3 weeks of Sept. are upon us. Thanks for thinking of ICF. BTW, you can register and for this year's events ON-LINE. And you can pay ON-LINE as well. Or print off the form and mail in a check as before. www.italiancarfest.com And, if you are interested in acting as a volunteer for '07, give me a ring. As the weekend has gotten bigger we always have the need for more help. -Jerry Lee Phillips 817 521-4400
A few pics from this weekend. If you look closely, you can see the tops of some of the pavilions on the show field. The water is up over the part of the drive parallel to the shoreline and well into the area we use for 'enthusiast vehicle parking'. This should all be gone by the fall, right? Lake Grapevine feels like a much better place to host such a show than '05's location.
Once the rain slows down, they will begin releasing water. They just don't want to cause more flooding downstream. I don't see how these rainfall levels could continue through July and August. About 3 weeks ago, everything was great - the wide beach was gone but all of the area we used as a show field was fine.
Lakes don't stay flooded very long. I would even bet its back down below the field by first of August. At Texoma fishing this last weekend the water was 11 feet over normal. Boat ramps closed, houses & restaurants flooded, and yet they aren't releasing any water because of downstream flooding. Right now water is 17 feet over normal at Texoma and they're still not letting water out. The spillway is 21 feet over and they expect to hit that tomorrow or Thursday (only happened once or twice in history). At that point things downstream flood whether they want it to or not.
Its good to know we are still at Stage 2 alert for water conservation..... but at least they stopped the stage 3 last month (which was allowing the city of allen to charge a surcharge for water)... ridiculas... Mike Verinder www.bigtoedomains.com
I think every lake in the Austin area is closed right now as well. We were going to go out Travis today, but they're not letting anyone out there. I think they have three of the flood gates open already.
I've been at Cedar Creek for most of the last 5 days, and it's remarkably only 6 inches high. The spillway is open and they're draining it as fast as it comes in. Every low-lying field within a 10 mile radius of the lake is under water, and the creeks are so swollen you can't see where the banks used to be. We had 4 significant storms pass through yesterday, and it was pouring when I left this morning. The good news was, it cleared out about 7pm last night and left behind a beautiful evening for shooting fireworks. And we got a great sunset! Image Unavailable, Please Login
For those really bored, Texoma spillway should go over in next 24 hours. As of right now there is only a half foot remaining. You can see a live feed of spillway here... http://www.kxii.com/
Latest update from Bob says that the water at the ICF site is all the way up to the main road. The u-shaped loop into the site is completely under water.
