Is launch control legal for qualifying?

    USGP qualifying was awesome!!! Schumacher pulled his car out to pit exit waiting for the green light. I thought Ok, he wants a clear track to set a fast time. Then Alonso pulled up next to him in the inside. I thought, Cool, Alonso is saying, "If you want a clear track, then you have to get by me first." Then another car pulled up to the outside of Schumi. He didn’t pull all the way up though. He was giving Schumi and Alonso some respect. Then a bunch of cars pulled in behind. It was unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was like a standing start with no rules. Or better yet, it was like a street drag at a stop light and they were racing for pink slips. (Slang for title to the car in the U.S.)

    It was the coolest moment in F1 I’ve witnessed. The gloves were off, and the fight was on.

    When the lights went green, everyone floored it. Alonso had the jump, as usual. I didn’t see who made it to turn 1 first, but I have to imagine it was Alonso.

    So here’s a thought. Can you have launch control on your car and use it for this qualifying sprint to get to turn 1 first so you have a clear lap, and not use it for the start of the race?

    All cars in qualifying and races must meet the FIA rules, which states no launch control. So no, they can't use it in quali. Mabye in testing or practice it's allowed, but it would be a waste of time since you can't use it in quali or races.

    assail him, impale him with monster-truck force.

    I feel these cars do use launch control. Weather legal or not, identifiable or not.

    Three world champions all chomping at the bit. Makes it even better.
