+1 No the championship wasn't decided by an entire season, just the final race where Max stole the WDC with a complicit Michael Masi. What rubbish!

There were times were it seems Senna's desire was to crash Prost every race he could, especially after Japan 89'.

Silverstone 1993 is the perfect example of this.
It was absolutely perceptible that Senna was ready to collide with Prost the five first laps of the race..

Singapore 08' burns every Ferrari fan up to this day, and rightly so. But the truth is, Massa's mistakes in Silverstone and Malaysia, and the engine departments failures in Australia and Hungary handed Hamilton his first title, not Singapore 08'.

Same is true of 21'. Abu Dhabi didn't cost Ham the title, the mistakes in Baku, Monaco, Monza, and Turkey did.

Also, people forget that the FIA and Ferrari knew damn well after Singapore 08' that Renault manipulated that race. The stewards just didn't use telemetry as investigative evidence as they do now, and so they saw only an admission of guilt as being sufficient. Ferrari knew Renault fixed the race as well, but didn't want the optics of putting a shadow over the final races of the season and wanted to put it behind them. This, as opposed to Mercedes, who had a meltdown and demanded an unheard of investigation into a race director, so they could taint Max's celebrations.

I'll never forget Piquet Jr spinning on the parade lap and my father saying "maybe he's practicing for a crash!"

My Father during Japan 06 "Been a long time since Ferrari lost an engine unlike Renault!" :eek:o_O

Anybody else have a father that makes ironic psychic predictions during sporting events, that end up happening moments later? No way is it just me.

    Don’t get this.
This is just speculation from Hakkinen or he knows something about this?
    Pretty stupid comment if not..

I have an unpopular opinion about Jerez 97. Upon some detailed inspection, it became clear that JV was never going to make that corner without contacting MSC anyways. Doesn't excuse Schumacher turning in rather than trying to avoid, but JV wasn't 100% innocent.

    This is true.
Jacques was too quick to make that corner but Schumacher is 100% guilty.
In fact his reaction saved Jacques from being beached !

No, Villeneuve was 100% innocent, and I don't even like him.

Schumacher had no cause to turn in on Villeneuve. It had been a fair fight up to that point, and it made the whole Ferrari team look bad, because Williams and Villeneuve had been saying leading up to the race Schumacher would try to take him out.

If Spygate and Crashgate were low points for McLaren/Mercedes and Renault, Jerez 97' was Ferrari's lowest point. The footage of Schumacher seeing Villeneuve in his mirrors, turning away, then turning back, is the most shameful moment for the team.

I agree , all his commentary was silly . Lewis just got unlucky with safety car situation, it happens . It isn’t like George annihilated him

At 0:26 and 3:14 you see JV's ridiculous dive bomb. He's a good 2 lengths behind going into the brake zone.

3:20 from JV's onboard you can see from his super tight line, late brake, and touching the curb his inside wheel locks up and he understeers badly. No chance he makes the apex of the corner. This is no different than what Lewis did to Verstappen at Silverstone in 2021.

3:38 from Michael's onboard you see him turn in and collides with JV's Williams that is understeering in a straight trajectory.

As I said, this doesn't excuse that Schumacher made 2 direct steering inputs to steering right, the second being very abrupt and made no intention of trying to avoid the collision at all. Penalty deserved, absolutely. But I can't say JV was 100% innocent from a crazy dive bomb and understeering car that likely would have resulted in a collision anyways, unless MS moved his car completely out of the way, which there are countless times the guy that far in front during the braking zone doesn't avoid a beyond ambitious pass attempt.

Gerhard Berger did it right with Irvine in the same race. Irvine went into the corner "hot" and on the inside line, overshoots the apex and Berger whom is on the outside line stays somewhat wide, undercuts Irvine and takes the position away from Irvine.

I love Schumi. He's my icon. He's the reason I got into Ferrari and F1. Total master behind the wheel.

Did JV try a crazy dive bomb? Yes. That's what's so ironic. He wasn't going to make that corner, and Schumacher would've been able to maintain the lead. It might have been JV's one chance to get by,

But Schumacher did turn in. It was a deliberate attempt to take JV out of the race. Schumacher was clearly caught in the moment of thinking that if he didn't move to collide with JV, the WDC would be gone, and so he turned back to try and clip JV's wheels.

I truly think it was more a personal issue Schumacher had with JV. He hated JV's comments about Ferrari and himself, and let it get in his head, and he cracked when JV was along side him, and moved to take him out, not thinking about the consequences, as well the fact his onboard would give us all the ability to review his intentions.

There are fans of Senna who will defend Japan 90'. There are Hamilton fans who will defend his move at Silverstone last year. I will not make excuses for Schumacher at Jerez 97'. All of those moves are widely condemned for a reason. Low, and dirty moves from great champions.

    All the greats typically are.

I remember saying to Hamilton fans at Silverstone last year you can support a driver, and condemn an action they make a choice to take in a particular moment.

Ferrari, at the time with MSC and Irvine at Jerez 97, weren't being "the good guys." I believe it was during free practice, Irvine held up JV a couple of times. Then during the race, the Ferrari driven Sauber was in between MSC and JV playing hard to pass and acted like a buffer for MSC (also to keep his seat to not let JV pass).

JV pitted and had 25 laps to catch-up to MSC and that's when the incident happened.

I believe MSC should have let JV go on by and undercut JV in the apex to take the lead.....just like Berger did to Irvine in the same race at a different corner.
