I think the answer is definitely 'yes' but here's a photo for discussion. This was taken (by my passenger...) while driving at approx 75mph after the car was fully warmed up. Temperature climbs to just past 190 after long periods in traffic and is 'normal' (eg sits on the little line to the left of 190) when driving at low speeds. Ergo, I think the thermostat is stuck open.

Does anyone have a link to a DIY thermostat change thread?

    Thanks!

Could be thermostat, could be the sender, could be the gauge. Do you have an ir thermometer? I'd start with that and see if the gauge is reading correctly.

i had the same problem recently, on really cold days, the needle didn't even move from the far left. Fuel consumption was 25litres/100km. I had the thermostat changed and now the needle stays on the first marker to the left (from 12 oclock) when cruising in cold weather. Fuel consumption also dropped to 16/17 litres/100 km.

Thanks all. Mine used to sit on that marker just to the left of 190 but recently has drifted further down. Guess it needs a new thermostat!

PS Does anyone have the part number for the 82°C Behr thermostat for the 355?
