I've noticed 3 things over the last few months, not sure if they are related...

    1) When switching b/w users the profile does not always load and I get a generic profile. A restart seems to rectify this for a few restarts. I've noticed this for the last few months.

    2) On > 25% of restarts I get a black screen with 2 lines of text, "disk read error occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart." This is relatively recent, say last 2 weeks or so.

    3) Internet connection is choppy at times, i.e. I lose connection for a few seconds or longer. I thought this was related to the ISP or the modem but it doesn't appear the computers connected via wireless experience this. This is relatively recent, say last 2 weeks or so like # 2.

FWIW, I have/do run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and the freeware version of WinUtilities by YL Software but no noticeable effect on the above issues.

    Any thoughts/suggestions? TIA

Interesting timing given I recently signed up for Carbonite! :(

Correct. And when it comes down to the network issues, that could also be a hardware failure, but until the drive is replaced, you will not be able to tell.

At least pickup a USB drive (2TB external for ~100 bucks or less) to backup your data.

Thanks. I have a Seagate external hard drive that I haven't used in awhile. I was hoping to not need it given I now use Carbonite but probably best to back up anyways.

Start backing up your data if you have anything even close to worth saving.
