In the process of trying to fix my on-going headlight issues, I attempted to remove my steering wheel today to have a look at the column-end of the light switch stalk. I got the big nyloc ring nut off, thanks to a fellow forum member with a homemade tool; but then, to our surprise, there were no threaded holes in the collar to attach a puller to--only the six, small-diameter holes to hold the actual steering wheel in place. My friend says his 82 has such holes, and when I looked up the collar part on Italian Car Parts.com, there is a picture of a collar (which supposedly fits all years of the 208/308) and it does indeed have two large-diameter threaded holes. They are missing on my car. I should point out that this is on a late-production 85 QV with a Momo steering wheel. Is this an eccentricity of my particular car, (hand-made, right) or am I missing something? More to the point, any suggestion as to how I should go about get the damn thing off? I'm think I might be able to get it free with some kind of jaw puller, but I would really like to avoid cosmetic damage to the piece of lovely wrinkle-finish cast-aluminum. What do think? Thoughts? Suggestions? Is their another proprietary tool we need to replicate?

I dont think they all have these holes. The collapsible version does, owing to the possibility of bending the collapsible bits if pulling on the wheel.

Usually proprietary tool = a length of wood or 2 lengths to lever behind the wheel!

You can attach a puller to two of the six holes that attach the momo wheel... just make sure you screw the bolts/puller arms in far enough. If you don't, you risk cracking the cast hub. The holes go quite deep if I remember correctly.

My collar was the same as yours.. I used apuller that allowed 3 point attachment as it required quite a bit of force.

I've got the same puller. Probably came from Sears too. The problem is hooking it on without the large-bore holes, phased 120 or 180 degrees apart. As I see it, I can either build an adapter, build a clamping plate, or get a jaw puller. Problem is my tools and my cars are currently dispersed to multiple locations around town owing to ongoing repairs and remodeling to my primary residence; so anything that involves creative fiddling takes a while and is a bit of a PITA.

I used long 5mm bolts and some washers through the slots 180 degrees apart.
