AA = really bad Southwest = good UA = good AA flights are fine but not the service. I had an encounter with checking in 1 minute late (the computer said you had to be there 35 minutes early) according to the computer. Mind you, every other time we've flown AA, the computer said to be there 30 minutes prior to checkin (I've even seen 25). To make a long story short, I had 2 service reps and 1 supervisor call me a liar. When I demanded they check the computer to verify when I did electronic checkin, they all just looked at each other like...WHOOPS. When I asked them why the hell it's 35 minutes now, they had no answer. Mind you, I've flown AA almost 100% in the last 15 years. No one apologized, no one cared, and I took my business to another airline. Which BTW, they did not reimburse me for that flight. Also I should say that the best they offered me was standby on the next flight.
That's absurd. It actually happened to a friend of mine on AA though.. he got to the gate with somethig like 20 minutes to departure and they wouldn't let him on. He was there, the plane was there, but they wouldn't let him through. USAirways actually checks to see if passengers are stuck in security and will wait for them... -R
I have never cared for NWA, either. Lost baggage and flight delays seem to be their specialties. I had a nice experience with United last week, but still prefer Delta. I wouldn't mind flying Lufthansa, either.
And ? Weren't ALL airlines in bankruptcy at one time in the last 10-15 years EXCEPT FOR Southwest ? I don't know if NWA is the worst, but in the last year I've flown SWA, Continental and NWA, and NWA is far and away in 3rd place... not even close to the other two.
I saw my sister-in-law today, she's a career stew with Alaska Airlines, and I asked her if Northwest is the worst. She joked, "Why do you think they call it NorthWORST?" But she says NW really isn't any worse than anyone else.
I live in the Minneapolis area where NWA is based so I find myself flying them quite often. I haven't had many issues and I fly more than the average bear. It really depends on where you fly in and out of and what times. Some flight numbers are chronically bad, others almost always good. Most of my flights put my into or through Atlanta, Chicago, or Detroit. No horrible experiences knock on wood. E
