Which makes it difficult to assess a drivers quality compared to his rival. Hamilton was beaten fair and square at the peak of his powers by Button, would that happen to the true GOAT, of course it wouldn't.
I don't entertain the notion of GOAT; I think it's ridiculous. Now, regarding your comment, if you want to compare Hamilton's records during the time he was Button's team mate (2010 to 2012), the stats say this. In 2010 Button 2 GP wins, 7 podiums. He finished 5th with 214 pts Hamilton 3 GP wins, 9 podiums. He finished 4th with 240 pts In 2011 Button 3 GP wins, 2 podiums. He finished 2nd with 270 pts Hamilton 3 GP wins, 6 podiums. He finished 5th with 227 pts This is the only year Hamilton gathered less points, but he still won as often as Button! In 2012 Button 2 GP wins, 6 podiums. He finished 5th with 188 pts. Hamilton 4 GP wins, 5 podiums. He finished 5th with 190 pts. During these 3 years, Hamilton collected 10 GP wins and 20 podiums, against 7 GP wins and 15 podiums for Button. Do you still think Hamilton was beaten fair and square ? You may want to start an unnecessary polemique, but the stats don't back up your argument.
OK, OK, OK. Russell has quite a while to prove his worth. In the meantime, he's a work in progress. Have a nice day.
Yes, of course he was beaten fair and square in 2011. Getting beaten by JB should not be happening to a driver who many call the GOAT. Would a prime Prost, Senna or Schumacher get comprehensively outscored by a teammate of Button's calibre, of course not.
Plenty of outrage too, especially from the drivers https://www.foxsports.com.au/motorsport/formula-one/f1-2021-hungarian-grand-prix-valtteri-bottas-crash-slammed-by-lando-norris-video-mercedes-wipes-out-mclaren-red-bull/news-story/4526f8416b64c93fd4e5af63e975f3f7
A) no one who won a WDC is more than a few percentage points "a better driver" than anyone else who won a WDC. B) JV was a better driver in 1997 than Max currently is.
Good for Lando. No matter, it was not intentional as noted by Horner who suffered the most. As if other accidents have not occurred in F1. Russell leaving the ONLY dry line ruining his and Bottas' car. Rather idiotic was it not. Since this a Russell thread............guess he didnt pay Mercedes back or Williams? The 'fastest' driver on the grid as he is called here. He did profusely apologize after he was counseled by his lord and master Toto. George wearing tin foil that day all but accusing Bottas of being a witch. George the fast and pathetic, entitled brat. Thats what he is. His antics this past weekend so proud of his podium after NOT RACING. He is not a complete driver at all-- years in F1-- not a rookie. Fast is not intelligent it appears.
My esteem of Russell has gone down recently, and his attitude following the "Belgiqn GP" hasn't helped. He may be fast, but he isn't the sportman I thought he was.
I think some of you guys need to get a grip, Russell earned that from an amazing Saturday. He's not in control of the weather either, let's not pretend others in his shoes wouldn't have been in a good place. And for those who claim JV of 97 was better than MV is now don't have a clue IMO. They're not even in the same timezone FFS.
While Russell has shown himself to be good for some time now, for sure his recent performances have been helped by the progress made with the latest Merc engine combined with wet racing the last two races. Consider that both times t that Russell scored points, his teammate—not rated by most—scored also after a long stretch of no points. Also, at Spa 5 Merc engines cars scored points for qualifying so well which could have been 6 (I think, but not sure with penalties, etc.) if Norris was in the “race”.
We're talking about the same JV right? The guy that damn nearly lost the championship in a car that was a second clear of the nearest competition?
+1 on all fronts. I don't quite get the outrage for GR celebrating his podium. Obviously that's now how he wanted his first podium but he sure as hell drove excellent on Saturday, and beat others in a much faster car. Is that direct evidence he's the fastest guy in F1? Absolutely not, but he's far from incompetent. Sure he's made mistakes. Who hasn't? Important bit is that he learns from them. Calling him an entitled brat is a bit of an over-reaction.
With points changing several times over history, length of championships, reliability factors, qualifying changes and so on, no, the stats can't be measured objectively. They can be a decent indicator, but not absolute.
We don’t actually know how awful the Williams is, given Latifi is in the other car. Gorgeous had one stonking lap in changing weather conditions - conditions that saw my near useless countryman make it up to 11th on the grid. Just saying. No denying he’s spectacularly quick though and it goes without saying I’m pleased the thought of him shading the Belieber next season is probably going to make F1 2022 most enjoyable. Almost on the level of Max taking the WDC this year.
Ok your opinion. Fact none of them raced, podium or not. Qualy is not a race. Its sets the grid. Fact - never was a green light. So no racing was done as the Safety Car prevented any challenge. George drove around in the wet like the rest. He didnt cure cancer or solve world hunger. Now that we have that settled..............George is fast. Fastest. No. There are no absolutes in this sport from era to era. He may be slower next year. Speed not a guarantee in changes in F1. Just ask Vettel when he faced Ricci!!!
Speaking of pre-F1 careers, Hamilton didn't win everything in karting and single seater racing either.
