I guess this weekend all the GP activities are on Speed Channel except for the race itself, which is being broadcast by my local CBS affiliate at 1 pm (can't disrupt the morning news and religious programming, I suppose). Is anyone aware of live race coverage this weekend, or must we resign ourselves to taped coverage? And, is this the expectation for all of this season's non-Speed-Channel broadcasts?

From what I understand, there is no live broadcast in the U.S.A.

God help us with the CBS broadcast. I'd imagine it'll be geared toward the NASCAR fan in hopes of introducing them to the sport. Which isn't a bad thing but, it could be like having to sit through a basic algebra class when you already have a masters in math and physics. I just hope they show the racing and not a bunch of pre-taped segments about the sport.

More than likely I'll wind up watching both the CBS and then the Speed Channel coverage a week later when they broadcast... :(

I'm already selecting my pen for the nasty letter to CBS regarding the coverage.

I'm not so concerned with the blabla of the commentators. Having lived through one failed marriage I developed a tune out filter...
    :)

What really concerns me is CBS national or CBS regional affiliate simply not broadcasting the race. If one silly Cessna crashes into a building (God forbid a high rise), they'll drop all scheduled programming and show the wreck for the next six hours. Happened many times to me, that my favourite scheduled show was overruled by some local or national "tragedy". And some unknown European sports event would be about the first thing Dan Rather would throw out the door to put his face on TV.

Speed at 5:00 a.m. will carry the race live on the left coast.

I was just writing a giant post about how NASCAR sucks and how F1 was better but I got tired of writing after the 6th paragraph and deleted it all.

I am so mad right now. Hopefully though F1 picks up popularity in America and becomes live on a local station like CBS and americans realise how much cooler it is than other forms of racing and I can sit at home and watch recaps about it during my local news and read about it the next moring on the cover of my local paper instead of having to read about how Jimmy Johnson jacked off Dale Jr. and then flip to page C12 for a recap of what happened during the race last night in a short 2 sentance recap of an entire race.

    Spoiler Alert.
(don't read below if you want to see the race "live" while in america.)

Schumacher is not doing so hot at all and neither is RB. Be sure to check out out the tiny section labeled "sports briefs" in your local paper tommorow inbetween an ad for adult diapers and ****** products to see exactly who won (note... they may mispell the winners name of the F1 race and then also state how dale jarret called Jeff Gordon a dumby face but then kissed cindy on the playground yesterday in bold letters on the front page!!!!!!!!)

just frickin lovely. our cbs nitwits in dothan alabama deigned to show two half hour info blah blahs followed by tennis. tennis? guess they figured no one would be interested in some foreigners going around in a circle (their concept of racing). but tennis? speedvision will broadcast the race on the 29th. still not as bad as the old days when you had to wait for next months car and drivers to find out what happened... cbs, what the hell were they thinking at the fia. that a regular broadcast of a real race might get joe six pack interested. not a chance in hell.. who suffers we do. thanks a lot bernie.

Sorry for those who haven't seen it yet. Watch it on Speed, it is one of the most dramatic endings to a race in a long time. Nuff said.
