Ferrari just released the transcript from Sergio Marchionne's conference call with investors on Nov 2nd, and it looks like he blames the drivers and not the cars (even when admitting 'technical issues'). What are your reactions to these comments:

"The answer to your broader question as to what went wrong with Formula 1, I don't believe in bad luck. Ultimately, it's a reflection on the way in which we manage these businesses. It was the combination of, especially in the second half of the season, between technical issues and driver error or driver misjudgment.

And so, I mean as we got close to the end of the season, we now got 2 races left to complete. As you well know it's impossible and it was almost an impossible task in the last race on Sunday to think that we could recover at least the driver side. I think we have learned a lot. I think it's a painful way of learning…….. The car is there. It is in my view probably the best car on the track today."

    He partly blames the drivers:

"It was the combination of, especially in the second half of the season, between technical issues and driver error or driver misjudgment."

And he's right, Vettel made some mistakes, had some misjudgments

Vettel not blameless, neither is Ferrari.

8 races on a turbo, poor quality parts. Luck not been on our side either with double tire failures. Yes Vettel screwed up retaliating to Lewis and just not using his head in Singapore. It certainly could've gone to Abu Dhabi, if it wasn't for either of Vettel's mistake or Ferrari's mistakes. What Ferrari certainly mustn't do is start their usual blame culture as it'll be a long, long winless streak.

We didn't have the overall performance in the car to truly challenge this year, we were good in parts, bad in others. The Mercedes is the faster car overall, and the better all rounder once they sorted out the setup issues they started the year with. Hopefully next year we won't be swimming uphill and eradicate the stupid errors

After qualy in Brazil Bottas correctly brought his car back to the pit lane to do the driver interviews..whilst Ferrari parked Vettel and Kimi on the track...this shows a lack of attention to detail and is just one aspect of why Ferrari managed to screw themselves in 2017.

It has now been 10 years since Raikonnen won for Ferrari, the championship for drivers (2007) and Ferrari has not won as a team since 2008. Despite a decent season this year and Vettels win today in Brazil, I believe something has to change.

After winning the driver F1 championship in 2007, Raikonnen's best place for the next ten years was in 2012 with Lotus, when he got a 3rd place.

His current 5th place standing with only 193 points, to Vettel's 302 and Hamilton's 345, simply means that he is not competitive and it may be time for Ferrari to look for younger talent that can get them back in overall winners circle.

But who is possibly the replacement? Ricardo is ahead of him at #4, Bottas at #3 is almost 100 points ahead, and even Verstappen may do better with a faster Ferrari car (he is in #6 with 158 points)..

What do you guys think? Is it time for Raikonnen to retire?

Nope, we need a good number two, and to give the pair of them a reliable fast car. Vettel is our clear choice for number one driver at the moment, and he won't play well with another number one, hence Kimi. If our car were better, his results would be better, how many did Kimi lose from either retiring during the race, or not even starting one? A lot, he'd have been a clear fourth, if not third given bottles issues.

I agree, a definite #2 like vettel to Danny Ric would be just great !!

I'm not watching F1 next year ................ but the following year when Dan is at Ferrari will be excellent :)

Actually, I disagree. If you never learn from your mistakes you are bound to repeat them. There where plenty of mistakes this season.

Vettel was like 29 points ahead at one point and lost the championship with 2 full races left in the season. FAIL.

Oh it was a fail, but blaming people only generates a poor working space and the last thing we need is for Ferrari to fall into the 21 year cycle again .... I'll go back to fishing if that happens AGAIN :(

I think the drivers (both of them) need to know they could have had a better season even if they were let down at other times for mechanical issues.

They are big boys. They make the big bucks. No harm in stating what needs to be said.

Agree, and when your CEO is complaining about "driver mistakes" to investors and claim to have "the best car out there", you know the current 10-year drought pressure is "on"...

I'm surprised by your comment is all. Kimi is the #2 driver, so even when he has been ahead, or much faster than Vettel, he's not allowed to finish ahead (Monaco, Hungary). I've no issues with this as Vettel is a 4x WDC and paid accordingly, and more consistently fast. Kimi is no slouch and has been very close to Vettel, however Vettel remains priority and Ferrari will wreck Kimi's race if they can gain a small advantage (for Vettel) from it. How many times have we heard him angrily on the radio begging for a pitstop lap after lap only to be ignored? I think in China his tires where so ruined he lost 3 seconds a lap to the rest (who had stopped) but Ferrari refused to pit him... Add to that the bad luck with failing parts that takes a lot of points away (notably car failure in Malaysia, he would've had a very strong chance at winning that race. Brake failure in Canada...used as a brake in Spain and Baku by Bottas. An easy 100 points deficit here not through his fault at all.

He's had a couple of qualifyings when he's been far of Vettel's pace, but this is pretty rare. Those are typically the days when Vettel really finds something special, the reason why he's a 4x champ and paid as such.

I'm puzzled with your ''And even Verstappen may do better" comment. Whether one likes him or not it's pretty obvious he's one of the truly great talents in the sports history, hence my questioning how much you watch or not.

Ferrari obviously sees something in Kimi otherwise they'd have replaced him this season. Vettel didn't have a contract, they could've bought Bottas, Sainz, Verstappen, Ricciardo and plenty of others, but they took Kimi's option.

What do I do? How is that relevant? I go to races too but that doesn't make me more an expert than if I didn't.

Right, but the intra-team battle will ensure the title goes to another team then unless Ferrari somehow manages to build a car half a second clear of the next team.

They took Kimi to keep Vettel.
Alonso and LH are the best of the old gen. Ricardo and Verstappen of the new gen.

    Vettel lost the DC himself.
