Some randon thoughts. The rotor is fixed. The ignition is electronic... Rotor is driven off intake cam...

So, if you adjust the intake cam on either side, you have de facto rotated the rotor which I would think effects the ignition timing also...

I haven't seen any threads on here about this...

Any adjustments that need to be made to the ignition system to compensate?

I am used to motors where you set the timing by rotating the distrinutor cap... Haven't had a chance to look at the manual, as I am sitting in the office :).

Rotor position has no timing effect.

No, the width of the rotor face is quite large so it always has a reasonable amount of overlap over the contact in the distributor cap over the entire possible ignition range regardless of a few degrees adjustment/tolerance here or there. However, this is one reason why it makes reasonable sense to break the system into two 6 cylinder caps (or do the kooky two level rotor thing inside a single 12-contact cap) -- on 12 cylinder single level cap it can get dicey/fussy for cross-firing.

    Cool, thanks for the replies...

I saw prior posts where it was mentioned that emmissions can be off if ignition timing is off... If this is electronically set, how is that possible? Is it adjustable?

No, but there are several preset ignition maps that are selectable (which map gets selected is determined by whether several pins on the MicroPlex ECU are connected to ground or not - i.e., different version TR have different wiring harnesses that have different wires connected to ground or not). By adding/removing grounds, a system can be modified to use a different map (so, if a US version TR was modified to use a different map, it might have some emission testing difficulty, but I've no experience with that) -- IIRC, these MicroPlex pins that are grounded, or not, to get the different maps are described in Diagnosis Sheet N. 1

Not terribly common on Microplex but it is common on Digiplex ignitions that the electronics get the timing wrong. It was a big enough problem Ferrari supplied the Jofatron to check it.

Coil, cap, rotor, wires and spark plugs are secondary ignition. It determines where.

Ignition sensors and the Microplex are primary ignition. It determines when.
