I've wondered whether the 430 is more relable than a 360... Anyone had both cars who can comment on this? About to sell my 2000 360 and am considering gallardo, which is basically an audi.. or a 430. .

Chains instead of belts should be a big plus for the 430

My 360 wasn't as reliable as my Gallardo six speed manual.

The F430 has been perfect in reliability, the only problems that were corrected were the exhaust brackets, the manifolds were leaking and the muffler was leaking out of the welds.

I wont recommend a F430 if this issues have not arised and the car is out of warranty, so avoiding a low miles car out of warranty is smart, some of this issues will show up at around the 10k miles.

The '04 Gallardo didn't have issues just the purge kit that they replaced on the car, every once in a while the car would die on me on situations like parallel parking when playing with low revs to park the car.

You have mention about the leaking manifolds and exhaust brackets problem. Weird, because that's exactly what's happening to mine! I have the exhaust brackets fixed but the manifold leaking problem is basically unsolvable unless you change the manifold. The dealer was saying the leak is minor and it doesn't worth changing it now, however, the leak much enlarge later on.

Did you change your manifold right away? Do you feel the car more powerful after the manifold change?
Do all 430 suffer from these problems?

No such thing as a manifold leak too small to bother with. They can do real damage to the valves.

I put 32,000 miles on my '02 360 Spider and now have 20,000 on my '06 430 Spider. Both were pretty bullet proof and never let me down anywhere anytime. One belt change and clutch on the 360 and nothing major on the 430 so far. Lots of pads and tires on both and I think more recalls on the 430 mainly with engine, transmission mounts, exhaust brackets and manifold replacement but all done as part of a normal service stop. Both were/are excellent daily drivers. Love the 430 more. Lots more grunt and better sound even with the stock 430 exhaust compared to my 360 TUBI.

An exhaust leak is hot gases getting into your engine compartment. You run the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, fire, etc. I'd not drive the car until they've been replaced. Should be a warranty item.

i think the problem is not with carbon monoxide poisoning, but rather the escaping hot gasses damaging the header sealing surface. A bigger problem to fix than the leaking header.

2004 or newer Gallardo is pretty reliable (not before 2004!), but the biggest problem is that you will probably need to replace your clutch every 10-12K miles at $10K a pop.

I just got my exhaust manifold replaced. Any recommendation as to how I should break it in? Do I have to keep it at low rev, if so for how long?

    Thanks

This is one of the reasons I went with the 430.

2004 is the first year of the Gallardo, there are none earlier than MY2004....

I would go with 2006+, those have better build, updated gearbox with shorter gearing in low gears, better interior build, nose lift was introduced in 2005.5

I have owned both a 360 and 430. The "brackets" probably affect all 430 owners and other issues, i.e. manifold, etc., some. Allot depends on how the car is driven or in some case not driven. Proper maintenance and sufficient driving assures a trouble free car. The 360 costs more to maintain with more (potentially) going wrong. Best

Because of the belts vs. chain issue or are there other things?

What's the cost of getting the belts replaced on a 360? How often do they need replaced?

Are most of these issues on the 430 being handled under warranty?

3k, including a check up of anything else.. every 3 years.. hardly a big deal if you can afford the car this should be a non issue
