the line with Porsche / Ferrari forms when they announce a new nameplate, like the GTS 911...911R
that nameplate was derived from the volume of custom orders that made sense to offer it as a marketing package of preferred options... the power kit was an option for a long time (approx. $16,000, for the full kit before it appeared as a GTS) as were many of the other options.... the 911R can be ordered ala carte from options, as was sensed there was a void fill by marketing at as a badge... there are many Porsches ( one off running around with similar specs without special badges that the market dept has produced... the packages benefit from better pricing than ordering ala cart, but there is no line for a one off custom order, one just can't be pinching pennies, those that do, need to wait... eg only the uninformed make comments about a color " not being factory" when the "factory" colors are infinite and one's favorite color can be had just pay the "extra" to the factory not the dealer for a place in line

my original order was a 4.0 with manual with awd before I changed my mind and went with PDK...( a refreshing change from my manual cars... seems a DCT needs some familiarity for a longer time than a short test drive before it begins to be appreciated ) the avg salesman on the floor doesn't have access to the full options and procedures, the order needs to go to Porsche for availability and approval

Agreed on the styling, nor is the Mclaren drivetrain as immediate or as inspiring as the ferrari one. So who would buya lesser car for the same or similar money and why, yet people do.

    The reason;

I just dont think Maclren, and Audi to name two would have the market penetration or market share they now have for exotics if ferrari and porche had been serving their customer base, instead of playing arrogance games denying cars and alienating a core customer base.

in fact the real appeal of Maclren is so far you are not subject tot he Bs even though it may be a 90% as desireable product.

Unfortunately, ttforcefed and I have been both on the opposite side of antagonizers
successfully convincing some that*we* were trolling. (to the point of being erroneously banned)

and as said before, I do enjoy Drama and Theater!

    ;)

Be well cnpapa24 and drive in good health!

    Meanwhile

As the market is now rationalising, and in the next year will some type of bottom whatever that is, 5% down or more or less. What cars would people here buy and why.

Or put another way, within the realm or reality, if prices went down 20% what ferrari are you going to buy.

    Super_Dave,

I hope this exchange illuminates in explicit detail why I and many others assumed you were a troll in the past. When confronted with direct and respectful dialogue and the reasoning behind your assertions, you slip quietly into the night. I've seen that you've logged in multiple times since my diplomatic queries, and again avoid conversation.

You've spent more than a year warning us all of the dangers of the market yes? What I find odd is, new or used, the depreciation one should expect (you've also said one is mandated to drive and put miles on one's car) on a MP4 (and putting a lot of miles on it) is mammoth. Wouldn't that delta exceed any potential price disconnect for the cars you mentioned you were interested in?

You see, like BradWillaims, I have observed the pattern of completely opposed comments/actions. It paints a picture that is not flattering. At best you have multiple personalities, at worst you are a troll or a hypocrite. I now give you the benefit of the doubt. I respectfully ask what is your reasoning to denigrate passionately the valuation of exotic cars, especially Ferrari, but in action participate in it? To criticize Ferrari and owners for only having DCT, yet purchase one yourself?

If you hate Ferrari and don't know how to drive stick, just say so - everybody is entitled to their opinion, but when you say X so passionately, but then do Y, it raises eyebrows.

no reason to wait, especially if a car comes along that meets the requirements, most buy their Ferrari to enjoy, value appreciation after purchase is a risk at any level... finding a car that meets all the requirements is not an easy find, and is bought for the longer term of enjoyment... anyone pinching a few pennies when the "right car" appears is not buying for enjoyment, but as a business... the next "finds" may not measure up as well and need compromise... the best cars bring the best price, junk cars are looking for a fool

Minoff (Bonhams) and Kidston quoted in this article on general state of ultra high end real property

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/11/business/the-assets-of-the-ultrarich-come-closer-to-earth.html?_r=0

This has been my main point throughout this conversation: These markets are very thinly supported. The runup in mass produced cars eg XKE or longhood 911 is supported by a surprisingly thick long tail of buyers that is big, but not inexhaustible. The extreme right hand tail is just plain tiny...
    Quote:

Because the number of ultrawealthy buyers is so small, even a modest drop in demand can produce outsize declines. “It’s generally been the case that at the extremely high end of the art market, demand is driven by about 50 to 60 people,” Mr. Beard said.

To call them "people" is hardly doing them justice, these are individuals that in some cases have the wealth of small nations. Say what you like about the market being thin at the top, but the demographics are simple, more wealth being created every day for people chasing finite hard assets.

...once again Super_dave drops bombastic claims, is asked respectfully and politely by me to substantiate...his response? ...silence.

Lurks awhile for the heat to die down, but always comes back hoping that history is forgotten to start the cycle yet again...

yup..and I'm the the troll with issues?

I made a unilateral pledge to SD, that as long as he engages fairly and honestly, I will refrain from treating him like a troll. In fact moderators agreed with this approach. Now that he has taken my peace offering and trampled on it, I have no choice but to conclude SD is a troll.

It truly makes me sad (for you) to know you take pleasure in denigrating Ferrari owners. I wonder what sort of self hatred you must be dealing with.

That's too much Mark, should be take out a few zeroes...

    J/K

    ;)

Congrats to both buyer and seller.

Maybe SD and BW have some thoughts on this? 50% drop next week? 75% drop next year?

I could not agree more! Has to be a good buy. For similar money someone bought this Peel at Amelia - I know what I'd prefer lol 1964 Peel P50 | Amelia Island 2016 | RM Sotheby's

The 308 really looks fantastic in silver. Vetroresina sounds so much better than fibreglass!
