My business partner has an '05 GranSport and the clutch has been acting up lately. The dealer (Wide World of Cars in Spring Valley, NY) just told him it is a wear item like brake pads and he has to pay for it. I would have thought it would be covered under warranty. I think that is rediculous and thought you guys might know the answer. He doesn't post on web boards so that is why I am asking. TIA!!!

It is not a warranty item. Wear items are not normally covered by any manufacturer.

If the car has unusually low miles, then they make fix it as a goodwill gesture.

It's a wear& tear item. No manufacturer I'm aware of covers the clutch under warranty.

How many miles did your businsess partner get out of his clutch? Here's some tips to get it to last longer.

    - Never use auto mode

    - Always use sport (except rain or ice which should be common sense)

    - Try to use reverse as little as possible

    - Avoid going uphill from a stop.

    - Put it in neutural while sitting at the stop light

    - Instead of downshifting every gear during normal driving (not spirited) just throw it in neutural.

    - Do not take the foot off the accelerator while shifting, wait until the car finishes shifting

    - Shift above 3krpm's all of the time, not saying run it to the rev limiter but 3.5-5k is nice for daily driving.

I've seen clutches last from 5k miles to 50k miles after selling them on almost a weelky basis. Take my advice and you will be fine.

That is right no warrenty or OEM cover the clucth. No matter what, even if the car is 200 miles old...The dealer might as a good will, but most times they will not, somtimes like me the salesmen himself might help in the cost, I have done that before...

it all depends on the specifications of the clutch and thrust bearing.
did they give him any specifications?
