The other day I was at Ferrari of OC and a sales person there said that the Ferrari company is going public soon. Is he correct? And if so, what, if any will it do to the values of our vehicles.

Thanks for your input or any knowledge.

Funnily enough there are a lot of things in this life more important than this however since you asked it is a well known fact that shareholders in publicly quoted companies who build cars lose money twice as fast because not only do their discounted cars depreciate more quickly but their shares lose value too then when the manufacturer goes bust parts are harder to find so the cars depreciate even quicker

Moral of the story is that you should accept my offer of USD 100 for your car now while it still has some value......

    Have a nice day

Oh and yes they probably will go public - check out the archive for a few threads on this last year

I hope they do. I have a billion pennies just waiting for this very event.

Who cares if it makes money. Just think of the cool annual reports and bragging rights of saying you own a piece of Ferrari. :) oh and the annual shareholders meetings that require a trip to Italy. haha.

During 2004, I read they were rumored to go public last summer ('05), but I guess it never materialized.

so you're going to purchase $10,000,000.00 worth of Ferrari stock? I'll settle for a grand or two just to see if the value rises quickly...

(yes... I realize you're kidding about the pennies - but I invested time in figuring out how much a billion pennies is worth so I figured I'd post and show the world how smart I am. :) )

I'd buy maybe a 100 or so shares just to say I own part of Ferrari, but I wouldn't expect to make money off of it.

I'd rather be a car owner than a shareholder. Cheaper in the long run.

I think the stock will get torn apart in the market once normal metrics get applied to their numbers.

Don't forget, the word transparency doesn't exist in Italian...

You have got that right. Why anyone dreams about being a dealer or owning the factory beats me. If you have that kind of money, just buy the cars, rent a track, and go have fun!

I think it would be pretty cool to own a part of ferrari even if it is something small like 100 shares.

I was thinking of something more like ten shares. LOL

I'm not sure that ten shares is not too many. These things tend to lose money. I've made more money in staocks where I know something about the business. Ferrrari stock is not about making money. It's about owning a piece of the horse.

The rumor is that this is the reason that Fiat divested Ferrari of Maserati (for something like 26.5 million euro) and partnered Maserati with Alfa. They did this so that they can take Ferrari public and raise capital. But who knows what goes on behind the walls in Maranello for certain...

Put me down for one share if it ever happens...I would like to get a stock certificate for that one share though, it would make a great addition to my basement walls.

I would like to see Ferrari go Public so I can buy some of the stock in the company so I can say I own a small piece of Ferrari, rather than one car and a huge wish list.
