Who here really thinks they can tell the difference between a Fiorano handling package in a 550M or 575M vs. one without the package? Thanks! Mike
Yes it is and it's obvious. It tracks into the corners much better and it's stiffer. With a 575 it's pretty much a mandatory option. The car almost porpoises with out it! Do it! That looks like a good car.
Dave, today I watched the video of you driving your car...amazing! So cool! The sound of the clicking every time you changed gears, the exhaust note, and you really know what you're doing, very smooth. Simply kick ass!!
I'll have Ryan Alexander post it tomorrow. It's a classic. Ferrari could have used it as a sale promo piece to motivate buyers.
Yep, have owned both and the Fiorano is a major differnce on the 550, which was already pretty stiff. John
I am going to buy quantum coilover for mine. Maybe possibly Aragosta. Fiorano works with the stock sport feature, but these don't .. mmm. Hard decision. Atsushi
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-Yby2rL0kQ I uploaded it to Youtube. The car has a Tubi X-Pipe and exhaust. The bikes were like pylons.
What exactly is the technical difference between normal and fiorano suspension. Is it just a set of stiffer springs, or does it also incude the shock absorbers or does it include even more changes ? I am not totally happy with the setup of my 456, so maybe I can learn something from this modification.

575 in standard trim does 8.17 on the Nürburgring, with Fiorano handling package it does 8.05....a very substantial difference! Btw, a standard 550 does 8.06 on the Ring which shows the 575 really being set up for comfort...
On the 575, you can get sea sick in hard cornering without the handling package. The handling package, or better the GTC package, is a huge transformation in the dynamics of the car. K
Hi Ferrarifixer, German automotive magazine "Sport Auto" have been running what many see as the leading performance car test series for over a decade now. It's called the "Supertest" and includes lap times at the old Nürburgring Nordschleife and Hockenheim (a super smooth racetrack) with 2-d datalogging, 0-200-0 acceleration/braking, as well as a 200km/h run in Daimler-Chrysler's windtunnel to measure lift characteristics. They ran a supertest on the 550 in '98 and the 575 in '02. The 575 had already received quite some stick from the UK press for being less focused on performance compared to its predecessor the 550. Sportauto was able to give a fact based assessment, when the 575 clocked 8.17 on the Ring there were many disappointed faces to be seen (exactly as fast as a bog standard 996 C2 running 300HP). Least impressed were the Ferrari Germany representatives who quickly arranged for a 575 Fiorano spec (not officially released yet!) to be sent from Italy. As said it clocked the Ring in 8.05. My memory didn't serve me correctly when I quoted the 550 doing 8.06, I just looked it up.....it's 8.07. Some more Nürburgring figures: 355 8.18 360 8.09 360 CS 7.56 430F1 7.55 And Hockenheim: 355 1.15,3 550 1.16,1 575 Fiorano 1.14,7 360 1.15,1 360CS 1.13,0 430F1 1.12,7 Cheers, Harald
Thanks.. thats great info.. so basically, a 550 with Fiorano kit or similar will still be faster than a 575 then... It's good to see it in black and white... but you can feel it when you drive them anyway... 550's rule!
My guess is a 550 with Fiorano kit and a set of Road Legal Pirelli Corsa's will get lap times at the Ring easily under 8 minutes. (Tires alone give around 6 seconds). Be aware that the Nürburgring is quite a bumpy circuit and overly stiff suspension settings that work on ultra flat race tracks only upset the car. That's why it's considered ultimate testing ground for street performance cars by so many manufacturers.... Given the above, any suspension kit for the 550 tuned to the Nürburgring has less potential for improvement compared to the 575 since the base setting is already quite stiff compared to the 575. For example Porsche's recent 997 GT3 is fastest in it's 'soft' suspension setting, clocking 7.48 with help of the excellent new Michelin Sport Cup street legal slicks.
Most spectacular track I've ever driven! Only about a 3.5 hour drive from Amsterdam where I live.....
i have been looking at some 550's and 575's, and some dealer's dont know whether their cars have the fiorano package or not. is there any way of checking with the vin number? where is the accessible data base?
