Good Evening Gentlemen. Main screen turn on. You?!?!? Ha ha ha Okay no, I was just bored for a bit, back to topic; Is the QP ready for prime time? A few years back dad and I went to the dealer to check out the QP and it was great, but there were so many small problems with the car that it just wasn't ready as a daily driver which we needed. Instead we got the LS430 and did a little more swapping around driver wise. After a little bit of time, we flash forward to today and we're about to get another car. The strongest choice is the LX470. This weekend we have a trip planned to the Maserati of Houston dealer to see what they have as far as the QP goes. What would you guys say; is it ready as a daily driver for Dad? He used to have a SL500 which is mine now. My X5 is my sisters (she just got her highschool parking permit, so that's her car now) and mom has the LS430. I was talking to bobafett and he was telling me that it's Italian (you tell me what that means...)
Yep, the QPIV is now ready! The brakes are very good and the electronic gearbox workes fine. ...how can we discuss when your Dad consider buying a Japanese mass produced car???? Ciao! Walter
i thought you were the expert but we are at QP V now. anyways, the QP Sport GT is quite good now. but since your dad is into those lexus thing, may be the next LS hybrid suits him more.
Anyone....and I mean ANYONE who buys a Lexus is not even remotely a "carguy" in any sense of the word...period. Are you kidding me? Comparing the two is so ridiculous I won't waste the time or effort. Get real kid.
Have fun with the Japanese riksha - and come back to us when you are interested in REAL cars! Bon voyage! Ciao! Walter
every time someone buys an LX470 a cute little baby dies somewhere in the world. good job man, you helped your dad kill a cute baby....just a fyi, anytime a person buys a QP some hot girl gets implants...
Right on... I actually had a girl in a new 911TT flash 'em at me (the implants) after yelling "I love your car!"
Its the Qp that needs to be ready , its your dad. Dont get a QP expecting to have the same gizmocrap that you find in a lexus or S class. You get a QP because its classy and a joy to drive .
I hope not! At first it was me that was going to get an E39 but strongly advised by friends and my rational side not to. Once we hit the higher price range of pretty much any other car, it was my dad purchasing the vehicle. Since he got the LX, I took his SL and my sister got my X5. Perhaps later on we'll look again at the market. Sure thing, just give me a little more time to gather up the funds for new clutches If he (or I) wanted a joy to drive we'd get a real two door. Neither of us likes to be jarred though. He's too old, and I just have too much on my mind at this age. As I said, we'll look again in a few years.
The current Lexus line-up of cars are perfect for women/wives/daughters...they are safe and reliable. They are not for car-guys/gearheads...But, I do understand Lexus is planning a future quasi-exotic mid engine car to compete with the new NSX replacement that should be a great car...we shall see..
Well, I don't get the LX (which is a big ass SUV) to QP comparison. I mean, they aren't even similar vehicles. However, I have an interesting comparison. I have a 03 Spyder, slightly modified, but probably still won't make the factory spec of 4.9 sec for 0-60. Tonight my wife, who is looking for a new car (to replace her 2002 Lexus LX470 of all things - no kidding), comes in and shows me the 2007 MB AMG E63 station wagon. The specs say it does 0-60 in 4.3 sec. While I am not sure what my 10 month old grand daughter will think about this sort of acceleration while sitting in her car seat (in fact, I don't know if her car seat is spec'd for that sort of performance!), I am concerned that now I will have to get a F430 or Gallardo to maintain my manly position in the family. Anyone else facing this problem? Any creative ideas? Maybe I can still hold my head high at the track with my Maser.... Mike
My wife drives her Cayenne S like it was a redheaded stepchild. The kids are usually commenting on her traffic light races! Not as quick as my GS, so I'm safe there....but it sure is faster than my Ford F150 dailydriver!!
What is wroing with these women..... just get them a mini or a beetle. An AMG station wagon? To do 55 in traffic on the interstate or 25 on the school run? What happened to soccer moms in minivans? Now that is what mine likes. A minivan. She's a keeper ;-)
Disagree, the Lexus community is very innovative and do many unique engine and transmission swaps with the 1JZ-GTE and 2JZ-GTE motor along with swapping in R154 and W58 transmissions. Even on the OE 2JZ-GE the 300 cars come with, many people have been able to achieve numbers up to 800whp and over 1000whp on the 2JZ-GTE. As much as I hate to say it being involved in both communties the Lexus guys are more involved on working with their cars and taking it to a completely different level. To say they're not car guys is very ignorant, you may want to do some resarch before making ridiculous comments like that. As far as the Quattroporte, what small problems are you talking of? Every owner/customer I've spoken with as had no major reliability issues.
I feel so wounded.... I'll grant you that tuners are different altogether. The post was about people cross-shopping your everday Lexus vs a Maserati....and along the vein of that argument I stand by what I said. Anyone who is shopping for a production lexus for everyday use is not a carguy. There is no passion in a Lexus, never has been, and I seriosuly doubt there ever will be....I really couldn't care less if you feel otherwise, or what groups you frequent.
not only that, the guy is deciding between an oversized SUV and a sedan. just try not to be too serious about these 'what should i buy post', especially those who are shopping for their father.
I'll agree that there is no passion in a Lexus, the passion is within the owners, the cars are just mass produced glorified Toyota's with potential, it's what the owners make of them that makes a certain group of their owners car guys. Whereas the Maserati, it doesn't matter who owns it, it will always be a special car. That's my take on it, my comment was more towards the car guys don't buy Lexus comment , not the marque in general, sorry for any misunderstanding.
There is no need to apologize. This is a forum where people like to debate car issues, and most welcome differing opinions, as do I. I fully appreciate cars are inanimate objects that don't express passion themselves. To focus on that really misses the point in a game of semantics. Certain marques are associated with "passion," or "soul" in a car (again recognizing that cars don't truly have a soul.....at least that we know of!). Ferrari is perhaps the greatest example of a marque that exudes passion. Every Ferrari comes stamped with the indelible mark of Enzo Ferrari, and is perhaps the main reason why people pay absolutely ridiculous prices for a car that offers many headaches. Maserati, Lamborghini, Alfa, Porsche, Aston, (sadly no longer Jaguar...thanks in part to ownership by Ford).....all have extreme passion, and are purchased by people "passionate" about cars (with a number of exceptions, ie: posers, I admit). I really don't view Mercedes, BMW, or Audi as having much in the way of passion since they are now mass produced by robots (and AMG might be an exception, but only barely)...but I'm sure people will take issue with that, though I am entitled to my opinion on the matter. The Japanese cars are extremely well built....but despite a few really cool cars (NSX, original Z cars) aren't cars that exude passion. For the most part they are appliances, purchased by people who don't care so much about cars as getting some place reliably and if you have the money with some class as in the case of Lexus, Acura, Infiniti. A person who purchases a Lexus for daily use is not a person who dreams about cars, loves cars, is passionate about cars....it is a person who has some success in life, and wants the upgraded Toyota to let people know that they can afford "the very best." Your average "rodder" or guy with a mustang has more passion about cars despite their car being "cheaper." There will always be passionate car guys that purchase any car to "tune" it, just look at the NOPI/tuner craze, I'm not taking anything away from those guys, they clearly have passion about cars and have chosen the Japanese car market as the way they would like to express that passion...nothing wrong with that. My comment was directed to the mainstream as evidenced by the original post in this thread. Maserati owners spend a lot of money on their cars, and most (myself included) won't modify their cars...they are awesome right out of the box....filled with passion that heralds back to the days of the original Maserati brothers and the years of bare-boned grand prix racing on almost no budget (you can just see those grizzled old Italian guys in their garage at night building those fabulous grand prix cars in an effort to beat Alfa, Ferrrai and the Germans...local and national pride)...absolutely fabulous stuff...the stuff of legends. Lexus ain't got it, and never ever will. I greatly respect your posts MVP, you clearly are one of the guys that contributes the most to this forum and Ferrarichat.....no hard feelings?
Umm... I've owned two Ferraris and two Lexus(es). A new Maserati spyder and another Lexus are on the way here. The Ferraris are loud, snorty, and unbeatable fun for about an hour at a time. The Lexii are a great way to travel long distances in quiet comfort, without the service bills or headaches of German cars (I also have a Mercedes). Sometimes, that's what I want.
sometimes i like bach....other times i like marilyn manson.......not sure of your point. certainly a person passionate about car can own both.....but that's not the point....
upon further reflection I think that is a bad analogy, one can certainly be passionate about Bach. I think what I'm hearing from your comment is that when you want to go for a "drive," and enjoy a car for the sake of the car...you take the Ferrari/Maserati. However, when you want the car to be "invisible," a non-entity and just get you from point A to point B without any hassles, quietly and comfortably...you take the Lexus. If I am correct in that appraisal then you would probably agree that you support my point.
