I don't dread the bill per se but every month it is wrong. What I DO dread is having to spend the time correcting it with their completely inept CS dept.

Same here -- I wish there was a law that requires the county to purchase the real estate at the county's appraised value if the property doesn't sell using traditional methods for two months.

In California? What are you paying in property taxes? Proposition 13 has capped your RE taxes hasn't it?

I am paying $5200 this year.

Prop 13 capped taxes but that was back in the early 80's.

I looked at an $950K home up here in hooterville this week (Top of the market up here). The price is OK, but paying the new property tax Vs the $1800 I pay now is a really tough pill to swallow. Kalifornia gives no inscentive for people like me to 'buy up'. I do like the fact that I am locked into a set rate, as my home I paid $170K for in '96 is worth around $700K. I guess there are some balances.

Remember in the first AIRPLANE! when Ted left the guy in the cab for the entire movie? The meter kept running and running in the cab and the guy just sat there. That guy was Howard Jarvis, author of prop 13.

Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes! :D
