Is there a viable alternative to Word/Excel

    Microcrap is driving me nuts! a 775kb Word document is using nearly 500mb to run!
    It is so slow and clunky, keeps jamming up; keeps reloading the AI junk.

    However, there are some things from my side that might create difficulties:
    it is a 3-column layout with the columns each being a 3 column table running the full length of the document.
    document uses different fonts (including Simbraille)
    also special characters from ASCII keyboard

    Is there a viable alternative to this?

    You can turn off Microsoft Copilot
    or
    Libre office is a free office suite that is similar to Word/Excel 2007

    Thanks Mike, I have copilot disabled as far as possible, but every time I open Word, the AI (not copilot) reloads...
    Also my concern is how 'exchangable' are these other formats? Will I have similar problems as Pages/Numbers documents that often can't be opened by Word users?
    Really appreciate your genuine answers.
