I've never seen tires that old from Tire Rack. That'd be a major PITA to be sure...T

There is no alternative in some cases, as some specialty tires are only made in small batches intermittently. Obviously in a popular mainstream tire, that is not an issue

None of the tires I have received from TireRack have been over a few months old. Quite a few sets. Only exception might have been the 355/25 19 Pirellis I ran on the rear when I had 12.5" Novitec NF2s, but too long ago (10+ years) to remember. Pirelli only produced those at set time increments back then and they are no longer in production.

The 6 to 10 year recommendation is based on both science and real world data. This should serve most people for most cars, but one size does fit all. Ferrari owners do drive harder than average, so frequent tire replacement appears to make sense.
