Is there any need to have an extra set of factory coilovers on shelf? I have no plans of selling my car and currently no problems but it is my experience that extra parts are never a bad thing but is having extra shocks over cautious are they ever problematic?

If I had them already, don't think I'd part with them. If you'd like the funds for something else that's another story.
When looking into this, there were some that were replaced. I do think that on the 575 at least, some people mistakenly change the drivers side front shock thinking it was leaking when it may have been the power steering reservoir hose seeping instead.

Adam- Bad news is nobody I have heard about is rebuilding the 575's Sachs shocks. Good thing they are normally bulletproof.
