I've been looking through advertised 360s and notice that in the engine bay the top part of the exhaust system that is visible looks very discolored - like a rusty old barrel. (maybe just in need of a good polish). Is this a sign that there is something wrong with the car or are they simply prone to discoloration and there is nothing to worry about?
Air boxes also look worse for wear

    Example attached.

Sorry if this may be a newby question

Perfectly normal. Just not looked after by an obsessive clean & polish kind of owner.

You could easily polish it back up also.

it is a exhaust system after all, do you get under your cars where its under the car and polish it ?
It can't be seen when the lid is closed, so why worry ?
But as others have said, normal and yes you can polish it if you want it shiny.

If you are looking at a car that has a lot of corrosion there it might make sense to have the alternator cable inspected before you buy. The positive cable can have i$$ue$ from heat and corrosion. The replacement part is 2200 smackers....just for the part!

$2200 for a cable -- come on. I hope you jest sir. Surely one can be made from scratch -- like battery cables.

That alternator cable is if you're anally retentive and need the part to be absolutely stock, etc. etc.

If there is an issue with it, you can graft a new end to it.. -or- run a second line in parallel to it back to the starter post.
