Only a minor derailment, but the best sound ever has to be the BRM V16 at full song, just incredible. Several Ferraris are definitely in the top 10, but this is #1 by a mile. :)

Back on topic, I think it's more of a caldera. A general groundswell that might explode but is much more long lasting. We could see some hot spots, but overall going up. I had lunch with a fellow fchatter yesterday and we talked about the 3x8 market at length. Personally, I bumped my insurance up about six months ago and I don't think I bumped it enough. I'll be raising it again this month, thinking about 80k but might go higher.

Could be, Mark, but that's not exactly an engine you could hear on the streets, is it ?

For me this is the sound number 1, here in the street near Piacenza ;)

Ah, that glorious wailing sound; it did not won many races, but the sound surely was good.
But it's not because you heard one in the streets that it qualifies as a street engine...

I'm afraid we are REALLY derailing the thread now...

This must be some kind of record in off track pricing. A 2V (with carburetor interior...) with 6600Km for €120 000..

I think a 308 "automatic" is more rare than rare and thus worth every penny ! :)

This seller is also advertising the light grey/silver metallic Vetroresina (the car that at first had 7180 miles on the odo, which turned out to be 47180 later...) for eur. 235.000,00.

    New benchmarks ??

Looks nice, not feeling the tan dash but that's a matter of taste. All carburettors were 2v engines so the interior is correct.

I wonder if the low mileage is documented. If true, and the condition is good, it might sell for the asking price.

Edit: the mileage is 66k km, NOT 6600!

What are you talking about? I hear them around here every day, common as VWs.

Sorry, it's of course 66k and nothing else. I was mixing up with Swedish mil, which is equal to 10 km :) Funny thing is that a same dealer asked €60k just some month ago for a QV with less milage.

You always pick up something new in this forum. I have never seen a carburetor car being called 2V before, but now you say it, it's obvious it is. I still find it extremely highly priced though. Will be interesting to see what happens..

It's at the official Ferrari Brussels dealer which will affect the price I guess. I used to live a couple of km down the road from it.

Please excuse my feeble attempt at humor. I was just citing the conventional wisdom about V6s being inherently imbalanced.
The Dino engine is a gem and a classic in all its applications.

You are forgiven; for a short period of time, I thought You were blaspheming. I always regretted That they did not care to develop That little V6 further: they dropped it too soon to me. The "Busso" has been produced for thirty years and has great development potential, showing what could have been done with the "Dino" V6.

Perhaps, but the V8 has proven to be quite a fine successor. You have to wonder if they weren't thinking way, way in advance when they made the switch.
I haven't read much about why they made the change and would love to know what the impetuous was. Power potential? Smog concerns? Perception that a V8 is a more "serious" motor in some respect?
    Anyone familiar with this backstory?

Seems That I am really doing my best to derail This thread...
According to what I have, once the décision was taken to build a "2 plus 2" car, it was felt That the V6 was already a high-revving engine, whereas the new car would need more "grunt" in low-revs; and furthermore, as émissions laws were looming at the horizon, they evaluated That only a 3000 cc capacity would have the breath for This.
Rather than enlarging the V6, they decided to switch to a V8 which would have the "grunt" at low revs, the potential to absorb émission controlling devices, and was built with the same cylinders as the 365 V12 (81 x 71 mm, less four pots of course)

Even with only 18.000 kms, obviously a "typo": 68.000 is enough...
Perhaps it Is a typo with the mileage which should Read "180.000"....

Maybe restored car with reset odometer? The front grill with lights is from a QV, so something has been done.

The Busso V6 was dropped ~10 years ago. The Alfa 166 was the last to contain it, I think. No further development potential because of emissions. I have one as my daily driver and can't part with it until I find another dd with a great engine. Over 150,000 miles on it so far.

Look at the values of all other collector cars. $100k doesn't get you much these days. And now that 308/328 go above $45k people call it a bubble. Give me a break.

308/328 owners are their own worst enemy.
