The average price that I've seen for 348s has been 45-55k. But, then again, most of those are listed in duPont Registry. I get the feeling that MANY cars listed there are a bit high.
I just bought a 1991 348 for 30K with 29,000 miles on it. It is in great condition, everything works, just needs the service, which I will do myself - just parts. If you can do the body work and service required I would say 25 is a good price. There is a yellow one in northern Virginia I'll bet you can get for close to 30K as well. As husker advised me, keep looking as sooner or later a deal will come around. I have been looking for one on and off for a couple of years. I would definatly lay eyes on it, have it taked to a dealer and have them advise you, or at least get one of the guys on this forum that lives close to check it out for you. I was all about buying one from Knoxville, car looked great, had 355 wheels on it, but it was a piece of junk when I actually drove it and had a lot of interior wear. My interior is nearly perfect, especially for its age. Dave
But the LOTS of 348s for low to mid 30s, are they perfect, low mileage recently serviced cars? I doubt it. This gives a buyer a great entry price on what appears to be a solid car. It hasn't shown up as some salvaged flood thing, or a car with bent valves. The seller sounds honest, so I would go for it. BT
funny, I was also entertaining that red one with the 355 wheels in Knoxville... the one that keeps coming up for like 40k.. now I know it's so so without the drive.. I presume you got the one in nj? congrats on the car! curt
I got my car in Alabama. Guy's wife lost her job and they had to sell something, so I got a great deal on the car. The one in Knoxville isn't THAT bad, I just thought I could find a better deal, which I did. The nice thing about the car in Knoxville is that it already has 355 wheels on it, which I am about to spend 1800 for a set of 360 wheels and tires. I really like black for the interior color, the one in Knox is tan. No tears in the seats or anything, just a little worn looking - with some work you could have it back in good shape pretty quick. The driveline seemed to have "slack" in it, so that scared me off. I might just be something wrong with the clutch. There is a nicer one at mitchells classics (just google that). It has red carpet in it ( I think someone added that). It would look nice with the bottom trim painted red. It is a 92 model too. I know they will take 35 for it, maybe less. They will take 35 for the one in Knoxville too. Both cars are are ready for an engine out service. Happy hunting!
Dave, that you for the feedback.. it is appreciated! I'm actually waffling between a 360 and the 348... may go with the 348 for cost vs. enjoyment... plus I do have a special place for the 348 in my heart. Thank you!
I went through the same waffelage. I would like to have a 360 too, but they are about 2X what a 348 costs. I am also from the Magnum PI/Miami Vice era, so the 348 looks more like a Ferrari to me. I am amazed at the heads that turn with the 348, apparently not many people realize it is a 19 yr old car, especially since I installed the 355/360 rear tail light grille. Both cars have a pretty hefty service bill, but the timing belt can be changed on the 360 without removing the engine, however, if you have a dealer do it I think they still want about as much as the 348 to change the belt! I rearched this quite a bit, so if you come across any other questions just shoot them out there. Dave
