So my jewelry store called me today to let me know my mothers B-day gift was read, and they had something that I might want to take a look at.

When I got there, my usual sales guy went to the back and came back out with a huge Red box. I noticed one thing about it...FERRARI. So anyways, he opens it and its a Panerai GMT with two straps and screw driver to change the bands. Its brand new and never worn. All papers, etc...

Here is the deal. They hadn't been able to sell it so they marked it down 50% off.
    So Retail was $12,220
Sale is $6,100 ** don't ask i know its not exactly 50% off, don't know how they came up with it

Its not the Limited edition if anyone is wondering.

I am seriously on the fence about this.

I didn't ask him, but is it rude to make an offer, they haven't even had the first person interested in it?

The ferrari editions don't seem to command a premium as one would think. That's a good price. Whether you wish to banter depends upon your relationship. You can always ask!

A few years ago the Ferrari PAM's never got below list. Now, 50% off isn't out of the question. Ferrari and PAM no longer have the licensing relationship so stores are trying to blow them out (according to my dealer). I was offered a very similar deal but passed since this was a little more than a year ago right before my wedding. I was already taking it up the *ss on the wedding, I couldn't bring myself to buy another PAM even though I really wanted to.

Panerai Ferrari watches are not desirable by collectors and do not command a premium.

However, they are still good watches and that is a hefty discount.

You will not get a bigger discount than that anywhere (probably not even on eBay for a used model). However, it is only worth it if you actually want it!!!!

Feel free to bid the dealer, however if I was the dealer and had just offered 50% off to a customer and asked for more I'd punch the customer in the face. there's getting a good deal and then just being plain rude.

If you do buy it don't expect to be able to flip it for a profit - that's not happening.

You can buy any Ferrari Panerai for 50% off or more. I'd buy it at 75% off.

Have you looked on line to see what they are selling for?

Do some research on the prices before making an offer. You could think you are making a fair offer and still be paying too much.

When you have someone talking to you while figuring discounts on their calculator, just take it away from them, put your "Number" on the screen and slide it back.

    Same effect.

It never hurts to throw out an offer. You never know. Might get a really good deal. I just bought a Submariner that way. I wanted a watch and they needed cash.

Well, most times this is the case. :)

I just scored $2000 off another guitar by making a random offer on it. :)

Why do they devaluate so much? (honest question). I dont really like their look but to go from 12k to 6 or even 4k for a new watch is a lot in depreciation.

The mark-up is huge so its not really depreciation but rather discount.
Supply and, in this case, lack of demand.
Look at Breitling Bentlys. Almost 75% off or more NIB.

This is why I prefer used watches.

this is true. i bought my panerai for ferrari fer 00004 for 70% off. i was not a fan of it for $10k but i like it a lot @ 70% off.

i think these watches are actually very nice! i just wish i had bought the perpetual calendar.

Yep panerai ferrari editions are holding up very badly in the used market. 50 percent off is not a great deal.

Most serious watch collectors don't want a Ferrari logo on their watch.

I have a GP chronograph with Ferrari logo and it is worth very little compared to its original MSRP.

Markup on higher end watches is rarely more than 50-55%. Those deals at 70% off etc is someone blowing out inventory, a "shop worn" piece, a gray market piece etc.

Back when I was buying a lot of new watches, most of the big brands were keystone (50% off list). Some had 50%-10% if you paid in 30 days (effectively a 55% discount). None of the major brands had dealer cost below 55% of retail.

That Ferrari watch didn't hold its value because it was a discontinued model that was taking up space in the safe or show case.

List has gone up across the board. Most high end brands are 40% lines now. 50+20 is a thing of the past.

I got my FER00010 for a significant discount via a reputable vendor on Timezone. Love it.
