my anty had a run flat pop on her, so the dealer said she needed 2 tires, total cost $1700 at the stealer. i was like, are u ph@cking kidding me? she owns the car, so can she purchase new tires and wheels and not void the warrenty? the stealer is telling her she can't

Did she damage any wheels in the process? Run flats are very expensive to replace although I too would question $1,700 for two tires.

the wheels were fine, but tell me this if u can, new tires and wheels of another brand should not void the cars warrenty, correct? as long as she keeps with the same diameter wheel, she just wants to get away from run-flats and wants a larger series tire, lots of pot holes in this area........

Tires are a wear item, and can be replaced outside of the dealership. However if you are changing brands of tires you should replace all 4 tires. That being said, run flats are very expensive.

thanks guys and yea your right they are expensive but 1700 for 2 tires? yes she will change all 4 tires but the dealer is saying that if she changes over to regular tires it will void some sort of warranty on her car, can this be right?

It's never a good idea to mis-match tires...especially when using run-flats. The vehicle's warranty cannot be voided by switching to an aftermarket wheel/tire combo.

Dumb question: Why don't you just shop around for the exact same tires the dealers wants to use and compare prices?

If the dealer is telling you that changing the tires outside the dealership voids the warranty, not only is that B.S., but you should talk to the District Attorney's office. If the price they want is way over what you can get the tires elsewhere, you should let the DA know about that as well.

Here's a novel idea, read the warranty book!

What kind of car is it?

I broke a wheel and tire a while ago, the wheel cost $1,000 and the tire cost $1,200. Also I had a customer who had the same repair bill for a similar car. The tires were run flats for a 19 inch wheel in both cases.

The dealer just wants you to buy from them, I can't imagine any warranty being voided from buying tires elsewhere. Call the dealer back, speak to a salesperson and ask if "they know a cheap place to buy a new set of tires from, yours are getting old and you want a new set but their store charges too much for tires." If anyone at the dealer ever brings it up after you get the new tires put on, tell them to "prove it and if you refuse any warranty work we'll sue and bad mouth out all over town." {Which by the way you should already be doing to your neighbors family and friends.} Dealers like that should be put out of business. Also when it comes time for another car, don't shop there and let it be known why.

P.S. That tire that's coming off the car that still has tread on it can be used for a full size spare, a lot of luxury cars aren't coming with full size spares, so tell your Aunt to hang on to it.

Of course its nonsense that the warranty would be voided by changing tires...

For kicks ...........very nicely ask to have the dealership put it in writing that the warranty would be voided.

Watch them back off and squirm. Should be worth a few laughs.

Put the show up on utube too... Give us all a laugh.
