I looked at a 1980 308GTSi yesterday, that was claimed to be one of the cars used on the tv show Magnum P.I. The lady could not prove her claim, but said the car's near 90 year old owner swore up and down that this was one of the cars used on the show. As far as condition it was pretty good except for very worn seats that would need recovered. The car has 51k miles on it and has a fresh service, though I don't know exactly what was done. It did appear well cared for and enjoyed. There was a dent or two but no rust anywhere. The wheels where the metric type and appeard to be bare metal and not painted? The VIN is: ZFFAA02A2B0035067

Does anyone know this car? If so please email me....I would appreciate hearing anything about it. I currently have a TR but have always lusted after the 308, and would consider buying this car is all checks out. Thank You.

First, have a look at this thread:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=106108

There were several cars used in the series at different times. They started with a carb car, moved to a 2 valve injected model, then finally used a QV throughout the series.

As well, more than one example of each model was used, as some were in better condition than others depending on their use for stunts, etc. Estimates are that they used between 6 and 10 different 308s over the life of the series.

In theory, the VIN #'s for each car should be able to be found, but I'm not sure who would have that complete set of data. Here are some we do know, thanks to Marcel Massini:

    Year Type Chassis# Colors
    1979 308 GTS 29109 Red/tan
    1981 308 GTSi 34567 Red/tan
    1984 308 GTSi QV 57685 Red/tan

    Brother Bird.

    The Vin's ALMOST match.

It could be possible that the car in question is a magnum car.

I thought you could read my mind. :)

I was confused on the bold part of each VIN. They certainly are similar looking....

Didn't they take the driver's seat rails out of the "Magnum" cars?

On the other hand, why would it having been thrashed by a TV crew be a "plus"?

I know they lowered the seat somehow and took out some of the foam as well for Tom Selleck but I'm not sure if they removed the rails. Maybe.

If you are a fan of the show, I would think that owning an actual example that had screen time gives it bragging rights, even if it was thrashed!

There's foam in 308 seats? Mine feel like I'm sitting in sculpted plywood. :)

I was a big fan of Magnum PI which of course gave me the 308 obsession. Thank God I fell in love with the cheap one and not the TR on Miami Vice!

you are as old as I am (born in 1952),

That movie was where I took my first date.....oops. She didn't think much of the guy being blown away by the shot gun in the beginning of the movie. Ah it was too bad, the movie I saw over and over, her...just the one time.

I worked in San Francisco for a long time, and where the chase scene began was around the corner from where I worked, about a half a block away.

I have seen some of the yellow convertable "Cudas" for sale from Nash Bridges. He always called it a "Hemi Cuda", none of them were Hemi's
