Sacriledge. Urraco how can you not spot the Alfa Romeo grill, how come you call yourself a Ferrari enthusiast and (I guess) and Italian car enthusiast with out being able to spot the greatest name in Italian automobiles. Please, please read some book on the history of the Italian automobile history. While Alfa Romeo make humdrum cars now they once were the car makers of the world ... and even today they cannot stop themselves racing anything they produce. You think Ferrari has the racing bug bad ... er, Alfa Romeo has it worse and started Ferrari. Some will say why do I not mention FIAT ... well to me FIAT just became a component manufacturer and lost interest years ago in competiting and demonstrating the passion that enthusiasts have and need. Pete
don't blame me , sure it looks like an alfa triangular grill but. click here: http://www.theautochannel.com/publications/magazines/sci/dec-jan-98/pg92.frame that site is pretty reliable.
Sorry ... Well I would not believe that site anymore ... shameful. Maybe it was a joke or something. In the end they have a photo of an extremely rare Alfa Romeo that has 10000 times the prestige or any Countach ... and a race winner (that model car, the T33/3 won the WC for sportscars) that Lamborghini cannot hold a candle too. Pete
Good spotting ... I did not know that 18 were made. I wonder if they are including the non-stradale models? Pete
I have a picture of a 33 Stradale above my desk at work. It was the Maclaren F1 of its day...Simply stunning Cheers Simon
18 Tipo 33 Stradale were built (so this doesn't include other versions). This is in my opinion the most beautiful, sexy, exotic... car ever built. This is the "customer" model pictured in this thread. The original 2 first factory cars had double front headlamps, and different air intakes around the body This is the factory car This is a "regular" version
The mid-engine V-8 Type 33 Stradale is the road going Alfa, and one of my favorites of all time being a die-hard Alfisti. It's interesting as the 33 concept came from Autodelta, Alfa's racing arm, run by Carlo Chiti (of Ferrari fame). Prior to coming to Alfa, his company, ATS, made a road going mid engine V-8 that does not look dissimilar. Also interestingly, the new Alfa 8C competizione unashamedly pays tribute to its forbear in the front design. Here are shots of the ATS 2500 GTand Alfa 8C Competizione for comparison. Great discussion about a magnificent automobile. rt Carlo Chiti Fan Club
Pete: 10000 times the prestige of any Countach ? A race winner ? Not everyone is interested in racing off-road. Some are interested in just going fast on back roads. Perhaps you speak from experience with having driven the Countach for quite some time, and road racing ?
No, but come on we are comparing a true exotic that Alfa Romeo only made 18 of to a run of the mill Countach which in comparison is extremely common. The T33 Alfa Romeo was the McLaren F1 of the day, ie. it won races and also looked cool. Now okay the Stradale version did not race (I believe) but the T33 did and won the WC for sportscars ... to me that is prestige. Countach is an awesome car but it is just a supercar with little purpose but to look cool. In conclusion if I could have an Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale or any Lamborghini and just about any Ferrari, it would be this Alfa Romeo in my garage. Truly exotic. Just my opinion Pete
Classic Cars features both of these vehicles (68 33 Stradale and 73 Countach LP400) a few years ago. The specs are as follows: ---------------------33 Stradale-----------Countach 0-60-----------------5.0 sec.---------------5.6 sec. Top Speed------------162mph--------------180mph The secret to the Alfa's speed was light wieght as it only weighed 1,261 lbs. The power to weight ratio was 402hp per ton. For a reference, the Ferrari F40 had a power to weight ratio of 434hp per ton and a 427 Cobra had a power to weight ratio of 399hp per ton. Sheehan represented a Stradale that was listed for $750,000. http://www.ferraris-online.com/cars/75033/75033101a.html Yes, I am a bench racer.
Yes THAT A.R., is a very rare *(special) car. Agreed there. However the C/T can be used for more than just views. The car sticks to the ground pretty well. It does not flex much. It is really fun on the back roads. Does the car have faults ? Absolutely. Realize that the car was designed in the EARLY 1970's by a very small company. Ergonomics and practicality were not factored too well into the design. Nice looking A.R.
The Alfa T33 stradale was designed in the mid-1960s. 18 were built, and they only are 2 liter cars. The racing cars ran from 2 to 3 liters, and a total of about 50 were built in all versions.
anyone have info about the selling price of the 33 mentioned in the article? They used to go for around 800K. I wander whether it sold at auction, and I will see it Keith Martin's mag... thx luke
I used to have that magazine that the pictures were posted from. Thank you for posting them. That car is beautiful. Alfa needs to go back to their roots.
There were 2 Stradales at Monterey the Alfa year (98?), one of which was run by Keith Goring. I belive the car was sold for around $750,000 The other car I believe was owned by an Australian. They are beutiful cars and great fun to drive. 165MPH top speed isn't fantastic these days, but it is still quite a bit from a 2 liter car.
I share Pete's opinion on the Stradale. If i ever had to pick up ONE car. That would surely be the 33 Stradale. For those who haven't seen one, it's a small car ! Is there any link to the original size (wonderful) picture posted by Boudewijn?
